Behavior Specialist

OneWell LLC is a dynamic company that provides innovative and creative solutions to a variety of needs. We are currently seeking a Behavioral Support Specialist to join our team in Cumberland County, PA.

Services are provided to the clients at home and in the community setting in accordance with the Individual Support Plan (ISP)

Behavioral Support Specialist (BSS) Job Description

A BSS provides specialized interventions that assist a participant in increasing adaptive behaviors to replace or modify challenging behaviors of a disruptive or destructive nature that prevent or interfere with the participant’s inclusion in home and family life or community life. The BSS promotes consistently implementing the Behavioral Support Plan (BSP) and Crisis Intervention Plan (CIP) across environments and people with regular contact with the participant, such as family, friends, neighbors, and other providers. Consistency is essential to skill development and the reduction of problematic behavior. BSS includes both the result of an initial BSP and ongoing behavioral support.

  • Develop the behavioral support plan and tracking methods using a person-centered approach in conjunction with the individual and the team to support the person, ensuring that the guide is written in clear, measurable, and observable terms in person-centered language.
  • Develop applicable ways to monitor target behaviors using data charts, spreadsheets, and graphs.
  • Train the individual, staff, and families on the behavioral support plan and tracking methods.
  • Keeps sensitive information relative to the organization, employees, and/or the people we support confidential and adheres to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) provisions.
  • Participates in developing ISPs and outcomes in cooperation with the team.
  • Performs the assessment of challenging behaviors by reviewing records, team consultation, observation/interaction, environmental analysis, and functional analysis of the behavior(s).
  • Crisis intervention supports provided to informal or formal caregivers in response to a behavioral episode that manifests with acute symptoms of sufficient severity such that the participant and the persons around the participant are in serious jeopardy, including the imminent risk of institutionalization or putting the participant at imminent risk of incarceration or result in the close damage to valuable property by the participant.

Ongoing Support can occur both before and after the completion of the BSP. If the participant needs behavioral support before the BSP and CIP are developed, the SC may submit a request to ODP for ongoing support to be provided during plan development. This service may be furnished in a participant’s home and other community locations.
