Direct Support Professional

Job Summary
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a crucial role in providing compassionate care and support to individuals with disabilities or special needs. This position involves assisting clients in their daily activities, promoting independence, and ensuring their overall well-being in various settings such as home care, group homes, nursing homes, or long-term care facilities. The DSP is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for those they serve while adhering to all relevant regulations and standards.

Duties

• Assist clients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) including bathing, dressing, grooming, and meal preparation.
• Provide patient observation to monitor changes in behavior or health status and report any concerns to the appropriate personnel.
• Maintain a clean and safe environment for clients by following hygiene protocols and ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
• Support individuals with dementia care by employing appropriate communication techniques and engaging them in meaningful activities.
• Foster a positive and respectful relationship with clients while encouraging their independence and personal choices.
• Collaborate with a team of healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans tailored to each client's needs.
• Document care provided and maintain accurate records as required by facility policies.

Skills

• Strong understanding of patient care principles, particularly in long-term care settings such as nursing homes or group homes.
• Knowledge of dementia care practices and techniques for effective communication with individuals experiencing cognitive decline.
• Familiarity with HIPAA regulations to ensure client confidentiality and privacy are maintained at all times.
• Ability to perform patient observation effectively, recognizing signs that may require intervention or additional support.
• Proficient in assisting clients with ADLs while promoting dignity and respect in all interactions.
• Excellent interpersonal skills to build rapport with clients, families, and team members.
• Commitment to maintaining a clean environment conducive to health and safety for both clients and staff.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $18.00 - $19.00 per hour
