Job Summary
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a crucial role in providing compassionate care and support to individuals with disabilities or special needs. Duties
- Assist clients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) including bathing, dressing, grooming, and meal preparation.
- Provide patient observation to monitor changes in behavior or health status and report any concerns to the appropriate personnel.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment for clients by following hygiene protocols and ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Support individuals with dementia care by employing appropriate communication techniques and engaging them in meaningful activities.
- Foster a positive and respectful relationship with clients while encouraging their independence and personal choices.
- Collaborate with a team of healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans tailored to each client's needs.
- Document care provided and maintain accurate records as required by facility policies.
Skills
- Strong understanding of patient care principles, particularly in long-term care settings such as nursing homes or group homes.
- Knowledge of dementia care practices and techniques for effective communication with individuals experiencing cognitive decline.
