Line Technician

3rd Shift: 10pm-6:30am

BASIC RESPONSIBILITY

In addition to the following, employees are responsible for understanding the relevance and importance of the individual’s activities in contributing to food safety, and reporting situations that may impact food.

NATURE AND SCOPE

Position will be able to work on all mechanical jobs i.e.: [piping (excluding soldered and threaded pipe work), millwright (excluding overhead conveyors), sheet metal, etc....] and most electrical and all instrumentation jobs. Central maintenance crafts may be called or assisted where special equipment or skills are needed.

To support all manufacturing areas by repairing, troubleshooting and performing preventative maintenance on all packaging related equipment and systems.

JOB DUTIES

• Reports to a maintenance supervisor and interacts with all hourly and salaried maintenance and production personnel. Takes direction from maintenance supervisor as assigned.
• Must have a thorough knowledge of maintenance principles and practices and have the interpersonal and technical skills necessary to repair mechanical, electrical and instrumentation problems in a positive and professional manner.
• Must be able to react to machinery breakdowns and equipment problems in a proficient and positive manner.
• Position’s greatest challenge is to assist in improving overall efficiencies through effective mechanical, electrical and instrumentation troubleshooting and repair.
• Position holder must have the ability to effectively communicate with planners and Project engineers to ensure that all packaging projects meet packaging’s technical objectives.
• Position holder must possess a positive attitude and be self-motivated.
• He/she must be willing to work in all facets of the mechanical arena and some facets of the electrical and instrumentation arenas to upgrade his/her overall skill base.
• Must be able to use SAP to create work orders and fill out PMs and any other computer tools required for job.
• To quickly and accurately troubleshoot major packaging equipment problems.
• Perform scheduled preventative/predictive maintenance during maintenance windows and as required.
• Work with team members on Operator Asset Care (OAC).
• Provide feedback to planners and supervision regarding spare parts issues and PM accuracy.
• Perform regular reviews of machine performance, identifying problems and concerns and recommending and/or implementing technological changes to improve overall performance.
• Participate in all required training, daily direction setting & Level 1 meetings.
• Performs all other duties assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

• For an applicant to be awarded a job bid as line technician, one must have performed packaging maintenance work, have comparable experience and/or demonstrated technical abilities. Testing may be used to determine skills.
• One must possess the ability and willingness to learn and practice new skills at an accelerated pace. Must be able to effectively communicate with and coach team members on basic tasks in a professional manner.
