Position Description
The Director of Nursing is responsible for the overall operations of the nursing department 24 hours per day, 7 days per week in accordance with current regulations and standards.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan, develop, organize, implement & evaluate day-to-day functions of the nursing department, including therapy, in accordance with state & federal regulations.
- Responsible for interviewing/hiring/counseling/terminations/evaluations/scheduling of licensed staff.
- Resident care rounds at least 2x per day.
- Responsible for attending daily standup meetings & giving pertinent information to department heads.
- Responsible for reporting/investigating/counseling regarding med errors.
- Reviews all facility incidents/events & participates in any internal investigations.
- Reviews facility Electronic Health Record dashboard daily.
- Medication management oversight of contract pharmacy service, monthly review of pharmacy bill & following up on monthly pharmacy report/recommendations.
- Supervise medication administration, identify issues/trends & develop actions plans to address concerns.
- Follow up regarding family concerns/grievances.
- Responsible for overseeing nursing/medical supply budgets & assuring cost effective care.
- Coordinates weekly wound rounds & assuring treatment plans are in place.
- Review monthly unplanned hospitalizations and conducting a root cause analysis.
- Oversight of all nursing staff including ADON, Staff Developer, Scheduler & nursing support.
- Responsible for the operations of the facility in NHAs absence.
- Monitor and evaluate staffing levels (PPD) to assure compliance with state & federal regulations.
- Develop & implement corrective action plan when deficiencies are identified on State & Federal surveys.
- Oversight of all QAPI plans pertaining to the nursing department.
- Review monthly Casper Reports and triggered areas above state and federal averages.
- Coordinate monthly nursing meetings & participation in meetings pertinent to the nursing department.
- Participate in state & federal inspections & follow-up; writes corrective action plan for survey deficiencies.
- Participate in mock surveys
- Review clinically complex potential referrals as directed by the NHA.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience
- Must possess a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as an RN in this state or compact state.
- Minimum of 3 years RN management in long-term care environment.
- Knowledge of long-term care regulations required.
- Current CPR certification
