QCx QA Site Mechanical SME Job Description
Overview
The SME will support the Client Team’s mission “Make a positive difference in people's lives and build a better future.” The SME will develop a field, hands-on knowledge of all MEP systems for the Mechanical QAQC Leader. This role acts as the Contractor's official “acceptance” of installation before progressing to the next level of construction or commissioning by the Commissioning Team.
General Description / Duties:
1. Review the contract documents, Owner Project Requirements, and Basis of Design for familiarity.
2. Review the GC’s QA/QC plan and provide comments to the GC for consideration.
3. Attend the daily Startup and Cx meeting
4. Attend the weekly GC Quality Meeting and lead the mechanical discipline report out
5. As required, attend site MEP coordination meetings, pull planning meetings, first of kind (FOK) meetings, preparatory meetings, and any other project coordinator level meetings, deemed necessary by the GC and Owner.
6. Oversee the development of the FOK installation procedures developed by the subcontractor for review and acceptance.
7. Review Level 2 inspections which include, installation verification to the drawings and specs, field inspect FOK installs, Pre-Energization Inspection, and final turnover Inspections
8. Provide a Weekly / Monthly review of the Commissioning Schedule and Master Construction Schedule line items that relate to quality activities. Report to the site construction teams any concerns with quality activities as they relate to the planned performance metrics.
9. Provide overview of the process of review and signoff in coordination with the GC's schedule
10. Integrate with the Commissioning Software (e.g. CxAlloy) for tracking of all Level 2 discrepancies found and follow the discrepancy through its corrective action and subsequent inspection prior to energization and Level 3 Cx
11. Development of pre-functional inspection checklists with the vendors for all pieces of major MEP equipment.
12. Provide general oversight of GC & Subcontractor Mechanical QA/QC plans. Provide feedback to the GC where deviations exist from the Division 1 specifications related to QAQC.
13. Conduct observations of MEP & FP trades to ensure equipment, pathways, and general means & methods are in compliance with the drawings, specifications, industry standards and coordinated 3D model.
14. Provide oversight of receipt inspections of major MEP equipment as it arrives to the job site.
15. Ensure DL items are closed out prior to start-up and acceptance testing
16. Participate in the Level 2 sign-off walks with the subcontractors, vendors, and Owner team.
17. Attend 100% FOK equipment energizations and vendor Level 3 startup activities.
Mechanical QA Specific Description / Duties:
1. Witness, document on the DL, and follow up on Level 2 installation verification checklists and conformance to the contract drawings and specifications
2. Support the Level 3 commissioning effort and help coordinate start-up between the subcontractors, equipment vendors, and Cx Team.
3. Systems Included in the Mechanical Scope of Work:
- Chilled Water Systems including Water and/or Air Cooled chillers, Cooling Towers
- Process Water Systems
- Air Compressor Systems, dryers, receiver tanks
- Vacuum Systems
- MAU, RTU, MCU, FCU, FFU, ERV, EUH, split system units, and CRAC equipment
- HVAC ductwork distribution systems
- Temperature, Pressure, and Flow Detectors
- Dust Collection Systems
- Leak Detection Systems
- Smoke Exhaust & General Exhaust Systems
- Humidifiers
- Heat Exchangers
- Tanks & Pumps
- VFD's
- Fire Protection Systems and dependencies to Fire Alarm System
- Generator Fuel Distribution Piping and System
- SCADA, BAS, Mechanical Controls
Requirements
Minimum qualifications
- 10 years of relevant work experience on large scale construction projects with a focus on a specific discipline (Electrical or Mechanical).
- 5 years of industrial construction experience as a QAQC lead with hands-on field installation and/or QAQC inspection experience.
- Experience in a quality control role with extensive knowledge of structural, electrical, mechanical and controls equipment.
- Ability to read and understand critical project documentation such as test plans, design documents, specifications, Cx scripts, etc.
Preferred qualifications
- Proven ability to work with internal and external partners (project managers, superintendents, operations teams, commissioning agents, etc.) in a positive, productive way that encourages collaboration.
- Strong testing proficiency using quality engineering testing techniques, methodologies and best practices leveraging test management tools.
- Familiarity with scheduling software such as Microsoft Project and/or P6.
- Familiarity with BIM 360, Autodesk, Bluebeam, CxAlloy, Smartsheets
- Ability to apply initiative and judgment to define and perform tasks, sometimes complex, and sees the bigger picture.
- Quality Management certifications with emphasis in Construction.
- Resume experience showing former superintendent, foreman duties as an electrical, mechanical contractor is a plus.

Salary : $140,000 - $160,000
