What are the responsibilities and job description for the Perfumery Sample Lab Technician position at OnScent?
OnScent is a manufacturer of fragrance and natural cosmetic solutions with world class natural, organic and sustainable materials for the fragrance, cosmetic and personal care industries. We are in search of a Fragrance Sample Lab Technician who will be working out of our manufacturing center located in Norwood, NJ.
The responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Accurately measures ingredients using scales. Records substitutions, over-pours, etc., and ensures supervisor approval.
- Compounds formulas accurately for Perfumers and sample requests in a timely matter in order to meet deadlines.
- Adheres to all safety regulations and procedures, understanding the hazards of handling the various chemicals.
- Follows safety and compounding lab procedures, and maintains clean and safe work area.
- Provide assistance to Perfumers when requested.
- Assists with inventory for Lab supplies and accurately organizes warehouse inventory to make sure supplies are available for 3 months.
- Provides inventory list for order placing, and stocks supplies and labels containers of raw materials from production.
- Measures flash point for sample submissions.
- Packs approved batches by labeling bottles in preparation for shipping.
- Ensures equipment is in proper working condition and cleans equipment.
- Replenishes bottles with oils making sure to follow the Lab Tech Manual Procedure.
- Completes end of day procedures including filing powders, repacking, and housekeeping.
- Assists with new employee training as directed.
- Prints formulas requested by Fragrance Design Department
- Organizes and prioritizes projects with sample coordinator and/or Application Lab.
- Check compounding lab email and responds appropriately and in a timely manner.
- Check available stock of raw materials when needed by production
- Gathers bottles from library as needed to pack new orders or investigate any QC discrepancies
- Keeps record of new orders by gathering bottles from library or prints formula if not in stock.
- Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in chemistry, biology or equivalent experience.
- Minimum High School Degree or equivalency (GED) with relevant experience required.
- 2-3 years' experience, preferably in fragrance lab compounding.
- An understanding of the importance of handling chemicals safely and following safety regulations, guidelines and procedures.
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Must have creative thinking, and strong organizational skills.
- Computer literacy skills required
