NATURE OF WORK:
Maintain an accurate inventory of all parts, tires, and supplies to meet the variable demands of the transportation preventative maintenance program and the day-to-day parts needs for garage staff. The manager will work closely with mechanics concerning the order of non-stock parts and ensure fast moving parts stay above minimal levels.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Automotive inventory experience
- Experience with purchasing, labeling, and stocking
- Must possess good time management and organizational skills.
- Positive communication skills with ability to speak and write clearly and concisely
- Comprehensive background in repair parts for both diesel and gasoline engines
- Technical background as it relates to vehicle operations and maintenance
- Ability to organize and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Proficient in the use Internet, Word, and Excel (preferred BSIP computer knowledge)
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
- High school diploma
- Related inventory experience
- Current valid NC Commercial Driver’s License with P and S endorsements preferred; if not held, must obtain within six months of employment.
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 Months
SALARY: Salary Grade 63
FSLA Status: Non-Exempt
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Maintain inventory of repair parts and shop supplies to service a fleet of more than 300 vehicles.
2. Monitor parts usage to ensure realistic stock levels can be established.
3. Research, identify, and locate needed parts using various manufacturer’s manuals and web sites.
4. Identifies appropriate vendors through the NC Department of Purchasing and Contract.
5. Verifies parts received and examines all invoices for accuracy before submitting for input.
6. Maintains a log of parts ordered and received to ensure over stocking does not occur.
7. Conduct annual physical count of all inventory along with spot inspections and adjustments.
8. Manage purchases within budgetary parameters.
9. Manage the warranty parts claims for school and activity buses.
10. Print and distribute proper paperwork and preventative maintenance work orders.
11. Other duties as assigned
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to stand, sit, or walk for prolonged periods of time.
- Ability to reach with hands and arms routinely.
- Ability to bend, stoop, carry, push, or pull.
- Ability to carry furniture such as tables and chairs, supplies, and materials
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds routinely.
- Must be able to effectively communicate with staff.
- Must pass DOT Physical Requirements.
