Performs intermediate technical and skilled administrative support work assisting in the billing and collection of taxes, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Tax Collections Supervisor.

Thorough knowledge of collection and accounting procedures; knowledge of state and local laws and procedures governing the procedure of collecting taxes; some knowledge of governmental accounting procedures and fiscal management; the ability to solve problems within scope of responsibility; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, attorneys and mortgage companies; ability to exhibit strong customer service skills by dealing professionally and tactfully with the citizens of Onslow County.
Associates or Technical degree in business administration, accounting, finance, or related field. Considerable experience in the collection of taxes, recording taxes and cash handling.

Special Requirements
Successfully completing the following courses within a two-year period: Fundamentals of Property Tax Collection and Property Tax Listing and Assessing
Appointed to the office of Deputy Tax Collector by the Onslow County Board of Commissioners, pursuant to NCGS 105-349.
Valid driver's license.
Salary will be determined by internal equity, candidate's qualifications, budget, and market considerations.

- Performs office work in the collection of current and delinquent taxes by levying personal property, wage garnishments and bank attachments.
- Administers and maintains bankruptcy filings, processes dismissals and discharge notifications and handles corresponding with debtors, attorneys and trustees.
- Assists with the foreclosure process and provides payoff statements to Foreclosure Attorneys upon request.
- Uploads files from Debt Setoff Clearinghouse and notifies Finance Dept. of funds collected.
- Reconciles funds collected, issues daily collection reports and prepares bank deposits to submit to Finance Dept.
- Processes lockbox, credit cards and electronic banking payments and applies revenue to appropriate accounts.
- Balances and reconciles cash drawers.
- Collects and maintains files for businesses applying for beverage licenses.
- Collects and processes gross receipts for the County and Municipalities.
- Performs general office duties as required.
- Assists attorneys, real estate agents, mortgage companies and the general public with inquires and tax information.
- Assumes the duties of the Tax Collection Supervisor when required, per NC General Statutes.
- Performs assigned functions as a Disaster Ready Team (DRT) member, if appointed or volunteer.
- Performs related tasks as required.
