Performs intermediate skilled technical work in environmental health, and related work as apparent or assigned.Work is performed under the general direction of the Environmental Health Supervisor.Qualification RequirementsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Promotion of public health through education, surveillance, consultation, inspection, and enforcement of state, local, and federal environmental health laws and regulations.Maintain accurate records to document activities.Educate the general public on environmental matters.Investigate and document complaints related to public health hazards and nuisances in all areas of public health.Inspect and provide advice on the correction of environmental problems taking care to ensure high levels of accuracy when conducting inspections and when writing and issuing permits, related forms, and other legal documents to protect public health.Assist in training and orienting new Onslow County employees, environmental health trainees, and others as assigned.Serve on disaster ready team if appointed or volunteer.Other duties as assigned or delegated.Core CompetenciesCommunication SkillsCommunicate with internal and external clientsResponds to information, misinformation, and disinformationCommunity Partnership SkillsEstablishes and maintains relationships that improve community health and resilience Collaborates with community members and organizationsPublic Health Science SkillsApplies public health science in delivering the 10 Essential Public Health ServicesContributes to the evidence base for improving health

New RequirementsArticle 4. Registrations of Environmental Health Specialists 90A-53 (a) (3).Meets any of the following education and practice experience standards: a. Graduated with a bachelor's degree or a postgraduate degree from a program that is accredited by the National Environmental Health Science and Protection Accreditation Council (EHAC). b. Graduated with a bachelor's degree or a postgraduate degree in public health and has one or more years of experience in the field of environmental health practice. degree, has earned 45 quarter hours physical, biological, natural, life, or health sciences and has one c.
