Performs difficult skilled technical work performing a variety of bench procedures in a medical laboratory, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the general direction of the Medical Laboratory Supervisor.

- Perform a variety of routine and less standardized test procedures and operate very sophisticated instrumentation such as microscopes, centrifuge, hemoglobin, glucose and urine analyzers, and incubators to aid in the diagnosis of disease and treatment of patients.
- Troubleshoot any problems associated with these test procedures or instrumentation by utilizing appropriate textbooks, manuals, and resource personnel.
- Receive specimens from a variety of resources and examine them for acceptability and perform the procedures based upon accepted protocol.
- Utilize a broad base of knowledge in interpretation and provide a clinical interface on the basic pathophysiological processes as it relates to the test results.
- Following protocols and standards to ensure the accuracy and reliability of tests results.
- Understand the theoretical application of procedures and instruments utilized in the work area and utilize this broad base of pathophysiological and theoretical knowledge in discussing test results with clinicians.
- Utilize internal forms to resolve results as well as to aid in solving any test result discrepancies.
- Isolating and identifying specimens using advanced techniques.
- Educating patients on how to collect samples properly.
- Effectively documents test findings and communicate them to Advanced Practice Providers and other healthcare professionals.
- Collects, manage, and uses quantitative and qualitative data, thus ensuring the required quality control log sheets are completed on a monthly basis.
- Prepare quality control logs sheets for satellite laboratory sites as needed.
- Collects and manages data used to perform and complete laboratory inventory and maintain laboratory supply stockage levels on a monthly basis.
- Documents in the electronic medical record and accountability system, lab results received via various reference laboratories on a daily basis.
- Ensures the proper handling of chemicals, equipment, and samples.
- Participates in outreach activities within the community
- Prepare and package clinic medical waste in accordance with medical waste disposal guidelines.

Education, Experience and Special Requirements
Bachelor's degree with coursework in medical technology, chemistry, or biological science, or related field and moderate experience in a medical laboratory, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Physical Requirements
This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions, frequently requires standing, walking, reaching with hands and arms and pushing or pulling and occasionally requires lifting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts and observing general surroundings and activities; work occasionally requires exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment and Infectious diseases: work is generally in a quiet location (e.g. library, private offices).
