What are the responsibilities and job description for the Site Monitor position at Onslow County?
Monitors the activities of a solid waste convenience site, assisting citizens with proper waste disposal. Prepares daily deposits, answers customer inquiries, operates cash register, performs measures to maximize container capacity and collaborates with other site attendants to ensure efficient operations. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Convenience Site Supervisor.
This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, walking, sitting, speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel, frequently requires reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling, lifting and repetitive motions and occasionally requires climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, using of measuring devices, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions, frequently requires exposure to fumes or airborne particles and exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and occasionally requires wet, humid conditions, working near moving mechanical parts, working in high, precarious places, exposure to extreme cold and exposure to extreme heat; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).General knowledge of waste disposal regulations; some knowledge of a variety of maintenance and manual tasks involved in operation of a collection site; ability to understand and follow specific oral instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.Any combination of education equivalent to high school diploma or GED.
Special Requirements:
Must have a valid driver's license.
- Meet and greet customers; direct citizens entering site on proper disposal of solid waste and recyclables; maintain appearance of site; assist the public with questions.

- Maintains appearance of site.
- Keeps accurate count of all customers entering the convenience site and collects money from customers.
- Compiles information and prepares reports.
- Monitors loads for hazardous materials.
- Ensures that recyclable materials are separated from other solid waste materials.
- Performs assigned functions as a Disaster Ready Team (DRT) member, if appointed or volunteer. Performs related tasks as required.
- Convenience site attendants will either work Monday through Thursday and Saturday or Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. The hours change based on if they are a mobile or stationary site and with a schedule adjustment based on the seasons (for all sites). A successful candidate will be flexible in their work schedule within reason.
