Description
Responsible for phlebotomy procedures to obtain blood samples from neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients; also including collection of blood cultures and Blood Bank specimens using the BBID patient identification system, and performing whole blood glucose testing at the bedside. Also assists in clerical duties of the department; including patient registration, specimen processing, verifying tests for proper diagnosis codes, ordering tests, faxing of results and quality assurance documentation as needed. Assists with plating of microbiology specimens; performing rapid waived testing; and completing quality assurance documentation.
Qualifications
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Completion of an approved phlebotomy course.
ASCP Phlebotomy certified or eligible (preferred).
Current BLS certification.
Experience:
Previous laboratory experience (in a hospital setting preferred).
