Job Title: Laboratory Technician
Onward Analytics is an analytical testing laboratory based in Colchester, Vermont that specializes in quality and safety testing of botanicals. At Onward Analytics, the Laboratory Technician’s focus will be supporting data generation by accessioning samples and sample preparation. As a Laboratory Technician advances in their career path, they may differentiate and specialize in a subdivision of the lab as they take on more complex tasks and further integrate into data generation.
This is an on-site, full-time position (40hours/week).
Key Responsibilities:
· Performing “front of house tasks” to prepare sample for analysis
o Visual inspection, including photos
o Accessioning sample for required testing
· Executing water activity and moisture analysis
· Sample destruction
· Conversing with customers regarding visual inspection findings, water activity failures, and insufficient sample mass/volume. Knowing when to escalate calls to a senior team member
· Performing sample preparation as per Onward Analytics’ SOPs and method validations; and in accordance with the Vermont Cannabis Control Board’s (VCCB) regulations
· Perform microbial data analysis, as required
· Documenting work in a timely manner utilizing electronic systems and/or laboratory notebooks using good documentation practices (GDP)
· Recognize, report, and assist in investigations of unexpected results due to out-of-specification samples or non-conforming events
· Recognize the need for, and assist in, document revision and change controls
· Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Requirements:
· Must be 21 years of age
· Ability to obtain a Vermont Cannabis Control Board Employee ID Card
· Must not be actively working for any other Vermont Cannabis Licensee holder once employment is accepted
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, or a related field
· Satisfactory audio-visual acuity
- Familiarity with software used in laboratory environments (preferred)
· Familiarity with the use of a balance (preferred)
- Attention to detail and accuracy, with a commitment to following protocols and safety
- Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with colleagues and report findings
· Ability to work both independently and as part of a team; adapting to changing priorities and deadlines
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
· Work is primarily performed in a laboratory setting
· Must be comfortable working with botanical material and products and chemicals
· Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 25 lbs., and work in temperature-controlled environments
