Job Overview
Tacoma Power is seeking a Grid Modernization Technology Solutions Architect to lead the design, planning, and implementation of new technologies related to its Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS) Program. The role requires expertise in integrating advanced metering, automation, and smart grid technologies while ensuring compliance with industry standards and cybersecurity best practices.
Key Responsibilities
<>1. Technology Integration- Oversee the integration of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), automation, and smart grid technologies such as GIS, ADMS, SCADA systems.
- Plan the upgrade and integration of Tacoma Power Utility s (TPU) new Outage Management System.
- Design and manage the migration of Historian data to new enterprise systems.
- Develop and document an implementation architecture covering physical and software components, including hardware, networking, UI, business logic, data layers, and platform services.
- Conduct performance analysis to identify grid inefficiencies and vulnerabilities.
- Develop simulations and models to assess modernization strategies impact on grid stability.
- Create logical architecture overviews mapping current and future smart grid system interactions.
- Work with TPU s operations, regulatory teams, and technology vendors to ensure alignment with industry standards.
- Coordinate with engineering, IT, and operations teams to drive seamless project execution.
- Act as a technology advocate, promoting modern solutions and sustainable energy practices.
- Ensure strong cybersecurity measures to protect grid infrastructure from threats.
- Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies.
- Support project managers in developing budgets, timelines, and resource plans.
- Monitor project progress, proactively identifying and resolving roadblocks.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Prepare detailed reports on project progress, compliance, and grid performance improvements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in utility/grid modernization projects, including ADMS, AMI, SCADA, and GIS.
- Strong understanding of system integration, data migration, and network architecture.
- Ability to develop logical and physical architecture designs for smart grid environments.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity best practices for grid operations.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
