OPAL-RT accomplishes an important part of its mission by offering state-of-the-art products, with the contribution of its Application eXpertise and Electrical Simulation Division (AXES) division, developing and providing functionalities adapted to the different technical axes of its customers, as well as specialized services and training in innovative technical fields. The AXES Division covers various vertical markets including power systems and power electronics, electric transportation and intelligent controls and protections. Each vertical market is covered by a dedicated team of experts offering also expertise related to Real-Time Simulation, HIL or CHIL (Controller/protection Hardware-in-the-Loop) and PHIL (Power-Hardware-in-the-Loop) as well as advanced modeling and simulation and development of mathematical analysis tools.


The US Energy team is a part of the AXES Division and works mainly on various types of collaborative R&D projects with several research labs, universities, and industry participants that lead to development of proof-of-concepts and new technologies to deploy. The US Energy team also provides internal support to the AXES Division on the development of customized models and capabilities that are eventually transitioned to commercial deployment by core product teams. The US Energy team also plays an important role along with the Platform R&D at OPAL-RT in order to provide efficient technological watch, foster innovation, and develop state-of-the-art technology for various applications.


The US Energy team of the AXES Division covers topics related to Power System Generation, Transmission and Distribution, Protection and Control, Renewable Integration, Smart Grid applications, both in the Electromagnetic Transient Simulation and Phasor Simulation domains.


Your role within the company will be to act as an expert in power system simulations within the US Energy team in the AXES Division.


Your main tasks will be:


· Executing on government-funded R&D projects and consulting projects that address various aspects of multi-timescale (RMS-EMT) power systems and power electronics simulation (offline and real-time).

· Collaborating with business development teams on developing new R&D proposals as well as transitioning R&D concepts to product.

· Publishing and presenting technical papers at technical conferences and workshops.

· Represent OPAL-RT in working groups and task forces at external technical and professional organizations such as IEEE, CIGRE, ESIG, NERC.

· Contribute to OPAL-RT’s technological roadmap.

· Develop models and functionalities for real-time simulators and Hardware-in-the-Loop applications.

· Collaborate with Sales and Marketing team to promote OPAL-RT products, including presenting demonstrations, assisting with pre-sales and post-sales customer projects.

· Assist in creating advanced training material on topics related to power system modeling and real-time simulation.


Your profile:


· Education: Master’s or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering.

· Solid experience in advanced electrical modeling, simulation and analysis of various power system components, distributed energy resources, power electronic converters.

· Good working experience of various Electromagnetic Transients (EMT) simulation tools like: Matlab/Simulink, PSCAD, EMTP, RT-LAB (preferred), HYPERSIM (preferred).

· Should have familiarity with various OPAL-RT simulation tools such as HYPERSIM, eMEGASIM, ePHASORSIM, eFPGASIM.

· Should be familiar with C/C , Python to develop custom models and scripts.

· In-depth understanding of power systems, renewable energy and microgrids, modeling techniques, power converters and controls, hardware-in-loop simulations.

· Should be independent and curious to deepen subject matter expertise.

· Should display versatility, a sense of organization, good interpersonal communication, rigor and determination, capacity for analysis and adaptability.

· Should have a conscience towards sustainable development and high-quality deliverables.

· Should be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking in English.
