JOB TITLE: Assistant Principal (ELEMENTARY)
QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree in administration or currently enrolled in a State of Alabama approved program.
REPORTS TO: Principal
ANNUAL CALENDAR DAYS: 207 (10 Months)
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The job of the Assistant Principal is to serve as the professional assistant leader of the school. The assistant principal works under the direction of the principal, with staff, students, and community to ensure a high-quality educational program and to formulate and accomplish the school mission. He/She will assist the principal in providing for an environment of high expectation for staff and students. The following responsibilities are combined for all assistant principals:
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist in providing effective leadership in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating the instructional program.
Assist in supervising, observing and evaluating teachers and staff.
Assist in interpreting and enforcing federal and state laws and state and local board policies.
Assist the principal in personnel functions.
Assist the principal in securing, maintaining, and managing material resources.
Assist in preparing and administering the school budget and supervising school finances.
Assist the principal in assuming responsibility for scheduling.
Assist in ensuring that students receive appropriate placement and services.
Plans and accomplishes personal professional growth and demonstrates professional ethics.
Demonstrates proficiency in written and oral communication.
Assist in providing professional growth opportunities for staff.
Assist in communicating and clarifying the school’s mission to students, staff, and community.
Assist in providing a safe, orderly environment that facilitates teaching and learning.
Assist in providing a climate of high expectations for staff and students.
Supervises the Cafeteria.
Handles Discipline.
Monitors Attendance.
Assist in evaluation of teacher in academic areas.

Assist in design and implementation of Mentor Program, orientation of new personnel, and any other activities related to equipping new personnel for a positive start.
Coordinates, designs in-service, and staff development activities.
- Prepare teacher handbook.
- Coordinate student activities.
- Prepare student handbooks.
- School Picture.
Supervises lunch program – free and reduced lunch forms.
Coordinates/supervises assembly schedules and programs.
Supervises Activities.
Coordinates bell schedules.
Coordinates substitute teachers.
Coordinates and supervises office aides.
Coordinates police/school relations.
Plans lunch schedules.
Coordinates ISS.
Coordinates keys and security.
Coordinates inventories and fixed assets.
Supervises buildings and grounds.
Supervises transportation.
Assigns and supervise duties for teachers.
Coordinates student lockers – repair and combination change during summer.
Supervises State Textbook Program.
Coordinates and assists the Summer School program
Coordinate 504s and Problem-Solving Team.
Other Duties as assigned by Principal.
