The Rose Communities – Open Arms Home Health Care-Des Moines is seeking a full-time Activities Director to lead the activities program for the Rose senior residents at the Rose of Ames. This position offers personal gratification as you enhance the lives of the Rose senior residents. Programming encompasses physical, intellectual, social, emotional and spiritual activities.

The position will encompass Activities Director duties and Home Health Aide duties. It is preferable that the applicant be able to perform Home Health Aide duties as well. There will be cross training for the Home Health Aide duties.

The Rose Communities are a group of six licensed Assisted Living Facilities in Iowa, which are leaders in providing affordable housing with home care services to the elderly population of Iowa. This advertised position is for the AMES location. Open Arms Home Health Care - Des Moines provides the activities services for The Rose of Ames.

Activities Director Job Description:

The Activity Director seeks to enliven the community atmosphere for all residents by offering programming that appeals to the diversity of interests of our residents. The Activity Director will be responsible for assessing community interests, formulating responsive programming, developing an activity calendar, managing an activity budget, monitoring resident satisfaction, building resident participation and enthusiasm and marketing activities to the residents and applicants.

Activities may be wide ranging and include such things as gardening, crafts, exercise, monthly themed events, birthday parties, social groups, games, guest entertainers, arts engagement, educational and informational presentations and creative activities of unique design. There may be other administrative duties as assigned by Administrator. Work schedule may be varied depending on assignments.

Home Health Aide Job Description:

This position requires bending, stooping, crouching, walking, kneeling, turning, standing for long periods of time, and lifting. Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds and assist clients to safely transfer, if required by the plan of care. 80% of time spent standing, 10% of time spent walking and 10% of time spent sitting. Must have average hearing and visual acuity. Must attend regular staff meetings and in-services to accrue 12 hours per year continuing education/training related to Home Health Care.

  • Follows the written patient care plan as written by the Primary Nurse managing the client’s case
  • Confirms the physician’s orders for the client’s plan of care
  • Provides hands-on individualized personal cares for client
  • Monitors and reports changes in the client’s condition
  • Performs simple procedures as an extension of therapy services such as simple exercises as instructed by the therapist(s)
  • Maintains records of patient care, condition, progress, or problems and reports and discusses observations with supervisor or case manager
  • May provide light housekeeping in accordance with the client’s plan of care and facility assignments
  • Familiarity with Microsoft programs and Windows based software is preferred.
  • Agency employees document clinical data and time logs via computer software

Qualifications:

  • High School of equivalent. Some college is preferred.
  • Driver’s license.
  • Positive demeanor, energetic, self-starter and creative.
  • Aptitude for coordinating people, materials and events.
  • Aptitude for various computer software applications.
  • Ability to work with residents of varied educational, cultural, physical, intellectual, personality and spiritual backgrounds.
  • Preferred – home health aide qualifications to allow dual assignments
  • Preferred – prior experience in developing and coordinating activity services for the senior population

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit, stand or walk for long periods of time. Full range of motion capability; arms and trunk. Ability to stoop, kneel, bend, twist, reach and climb.
  • Gross and fine motor coordination to allow the manipulation of equipment utilized in the performance of activities
  • Ability to lift/carry medium weight (up to 20 lbs.), light pushing/pulling (up to 40lbs.)
  • Ability to hear within normal ranges, vision (corrected if necessary) to allow reading and the discernment of color and normal sense of touch.
  • Ability to withstand temperature fluctuations normally found within an office environment and varying weather conditions which may exist while performing outdoor activities and events.
