What are the responsibilities and job description for the Coding Specialist position at Open Door Health Services?
As a Coding Specialist you will uphold our Mission, Vision, and Values. Under the direction of the Director of Revenue Cycle, this position will file appropriate billing forms for private insurance, Medicaid, and Medicare, collect fees that are due, and maintain appropriate records of such transactions. They will translate descriptions of medical diagnoses and procedures into codes which record health care data. They will work closely with medical staff who are responsible for recording the information required for coding within the patient’s medical record.

Mission – Improve the Quality of Life of Others:
- Compile monthly reports on claims transmitted, claims received, review outstanding claims on claims transmitted/received, outstanding bills and insurance claims and other necessary report for the functioning of the financial office.
- Post all encounter forms into the computer to include appropriate ICD-10 and CPT codes and charges.
- Audit claims specified by the Director of Revenue Cycle monthly.

- Update patients demographic information and third-party payer information in the computer.
- Input information for hospital charges for providers.
- Input information in EMR for outreach events.

- Provider education as needed.
- Enter Lab charges with appropriate ICD-10 and CPT codes and charges.
- Allocate codes to patients’ current episode of care, using knowledges of current ICD-10 and CPT coding, by consulting with responsible medical provider.
- Clarify inconsistent, ambiguous, or non-specific information in a medical record by consulting with the responsible medical provider.
- Keep coding knowledge and skills updated.
- Complies with all agency policies and procedures concerning corporate compliance including privacy of protected health information.
Education and Experience:
- High School diploma or GED equivalency preferred. Medical coding certification strongly preferred.
- Prefer billing department experience in a health care facility.

Physical and Environmental Requirements:
- Possible exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to clinic environment. Tasks may involve contact with blood or body substances.
