You may already know that we are a faith-led agency, providing compassionate, person-centered care to individuals and families experiencing homelessness, trauma, addiction and other life troubles through residential or emergency housing and programs, and a food and clothing community service. Our objective is to nurture and grow existing programs and services and implement the best practices to meet the needs of our clients - all while sharing the Gospel message.

COMPENSATION AND SCHEDULING
The typical starting rate for someone with a 4 year degree and limited experience is $20, with a max of $22 per hour for more experienced applicants who can demonstrate experience managing a case load specific to substance abuse recovery and mental health complexities. We will consider a candidate with an Associate's degree or diploma / GED if they can demonstrate the equivalent knowledge through their professional experience and / or certifications. Compensation is negotiable for a candidate with higher level of education and / or experience.
As an essential position within a 24 / 7 environment, shifts may vary based on need. While we can't offer the option of hybrid or remote work we can provide a meaningful work experience.
This role requires a valid NYS driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
Our Addiction Recovery Program is a male-only, 12-person residential program. The Genesis Counselor will facilitate groups on topics such as addiction, life skills, and / or spiritual care. The Genesis Counselor will take a person centered and trauma informed care approach in meeting with clients to discuss their goals for when they are in program and post program graduation, and then plans a course of action.
Genesis Counselors may perform inspections of sleeping areas and monitor residential living, perform monitored urinalysis drug testing, and address client substance abuse, conflicts and altercations. These positions are required to enter shower areas, bathrooms, resident rooms, or other areas that are personal in nature to conduct inspections, drug testing and address concerns or any behavior issues. This can result in exposure to men in various states of dress.
Open Door Mission takes precautions to ensure both staff and client safety. Our intake process assesses client's potential for risk to self and others while in our program and provides recommendation or referrals for those who do not meet eligibility requirements. Due to client history, the influence and impact of substance use / alcohol and / or presence of underlying mental health conditions may impact their judgement and ability for self-control.
