Open Door is a community-based nonprofit organization whose mission is to cultivate community, opportunity, and restoration with people experiencing homelessness and poverty in Lubbock. Founded in 1997, Open Door has pioneered community-center based development in the Overton and Downtown neighborhoods for the past 21 years. Today, in addition to being an indigenous, nondenominational Christian congregation planted among people experiencing homelessness and poverty, Open Door operates as a Community Center open daily to the public, a Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) program providing housing and supportive services to more than 40 chronically homeless individuals, and Transitional Housing-Rapid Rehousing (TH-RRH) program serving adult survivors of sex trafficking and their children.
Case Manager Position
The Case Manager a full-time, exempt, salaried position within the Open Door Survivor Housing (ODSH) program. This position is responsible for assisting adult survivors of sex trafficking and their families with support needed to continue in transitional housing or rapid-rehousing while also preparing for program exit. The Case Manager cultivates relational connection with survivors, replacing harmful bond with trafficker with healthy bonds by seeking to provide basic needs, affirming and valuing survivor’s holistic needs for long term healing, providing conflict resolution as needed, providing opportunities of empowerment, etc.
The ideal candidate is a compassionate and dedicated individual able to work well independently and with a team, experienced and skilled in trauma-informed care, committed to maintaining healthy self-care, and is able to work well within a challenging interpersonal environment.
Primary Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Open Door Survivor Housing team to deliver a variety of supportive services to adult survivors of sex trafficking and their children.
- Manage and coordinate care plans for 7-10 adult survivor and their children at a time.
- Provide survivors with medical, law enforcement, and judicial accompaniment.
- Enter and maintain client information and case notes in secure database.
- Work with Care Coordinator to coordinate relocations and move-ins to transitional housing units.
- Provide transportation in agency vehicle for survivors and their children to appointments including child care, purchasing groceries and household items, employment, and other services.
- Provide resource referrals for clients needing services outside ODSH scope; including but not limited to continued education, long-term housing assistance, medical care, etc.
- Assist Survivor Housing Counselor with group therapy specific to survivors when needed.
- In conjunction with the Care Coordinator, provide age appropriate comprehensive sex trafficking community education on the topic of sex trafficking.
- Attend Agency required trainings with or without ODSH team to increase knowledge of sexual assault/sex trafficking which will include light travel to destinations with travel expenses covered by agency.
- Develop positive relations with the public and other agencies as a representative of Open Door.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Master of Social Work (MSW) or comparable degree preferred; Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) or comparable degree with experience accepted.
- Licensing: Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) preferred.
- Experience: At least 1 year of experience in case management for clients dealing with sex trafficking, substance abuse, sexual abuse, or mental health diagnoses.
- Skills: Knowledge and experience in Trauma-Informed Care, Harm-Reduction, and/or Motivational Interviewing preferred.
- Skills: Competence in working with client charting and record keeping.
- Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Have a general understanding of the issues surrounding sex trafficking.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Bilingual (Spanish-English) preferred
Environmental/Working Conditions
The Case Manager is based in the Open Door Survivor Housing office building and will travel to survivor's housing units within the City of Lubbock to make participant contacts. Primary hours are Mon-Fri 8am-5pm. On-call hours required in rotation with other Survivor Housing staff. Evening hours may occasionally be needed based on participant availability and need.
