Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Custodian to join our team. The Custodian will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and overall appearance of our facilities. The Custodian will join Open Doors’ team and work closely with shelter staff and leadership to ensure smooth operations of the area’s only low-barrier emergency shelter and drop-in center. The position is responsible for ensuring that the facility is clean and welcoming to all participants. Open Doors is dedicated to providing safe shelter for the unhoused, as well as compassionate support and access to services for all in the Harrisonburg-Rockingham community.
Duties
- Responsible for ensuring the facility (shelter and administrative center) are clean and sanitary. This includes the bathrooms, dining, laundry, and shower facilities.
- Assist shelter staff in emergent situations to ensure the safety of occupants.
- Partner with the support team in ensuring policies are upheld equitably.
- Ensure a safe, secure and inclusive shelter environment for all guests, volunteers, etc.
- Report facility concerns Shelter Coordinator promptly and clearly.
- Facilitate friendly interactions and services with internal and external parties.
Qualifications
- 1-2 years custodial experience preferred.
- Experience working with vulnerable populations preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $15.00 per hour
