Open Opportunity Fund is a technology venture capital firm focused on investing in software companies founded by outstanding overlooked founders. Open Opportunity Fund's portfolio spans enterprise IT, artificial intelligence, fintech, and digital health sectors. Opportunity Fund 1 is a $100 million fund with SoftBank as an anchor LP. The firm has invested in 75 tech companies including Atomic, Brex, Cityblock Health, Eight Sleep, Esusu, Lumu, Paystand, QuickNode, Squire, and Subject. The fund has achieved seven portfolio company exits. In 2023, the team led by Paul Judge and Marcelo Claure acquired the Fund from SoftBank and announced Fund 2 to continue to execute the thesis.


Role Overview:


The Value Creation Associate at Open Opportunity Fund will work directly with portfolio founders to accelerate growth, optimize operations, and unlock strategic opportunities. This role is instrumental in ensuring portfolio companies have access to the fund’s network of mentors and advisors, expertise, and resources to scale effectively.


Key Responsibilities:


Portfolio Growth & Support

  • Partner with founders to identify key growth levers and operational improvements.
  • Develop and track performance metrics to measure company progress and impact
  • Support go-to-market strategies, including customer acquisition, sales enablement, and revenue optimization.


Strategic Partnerships & Business Development:

  • Leverage Open Opportunity Fund’s network to connect portfolio companies with enterprise customers, distribution partners, and industry leaders
  • Identify and facilitate strategic partnerships to enhance market positioning and accelerate revenue growth.
  • Assist portfolio companies in preparing for fundraising, refining investor narratives, and making introductions to potential co-investors.


Operational Excellence & Founder Support:

  • Work closely with founders to implement best practices in finance, hiring, and scaling operations.
  • Conduct benchmarking analysis to help founders make data-driven decisions.
  • Act as a thought partner to portfolio executives, offering insights from other high-performing startups.


Community & Ecosystem Engagement:

  • Strengthen Open Opportunity Fund’s ecosystem by fostering peer-to-peer learning among portfolio founders.
  • Organize workshops, roundtables, and networking events to provide portfolio companies with tactical insights and access to industry leaders.
  • Identify resources and tools that can drive efficiencies across the portfolio.

This role is based in Atlanta, New York, Miami or remote locations and is available for an immediate start.


Requirements:


Qualifications & Experience:

  • 2–5 years of experience in venture capital, private equity, or a related investment role with direct exposure to portfolio company support.
  • Strong understanding of venture capital portfolio management, including growth strategy, fundraising dynamics, and exit pathways.
  • Experience working with early-stage startups (Seed to Series B) and supporting founders on key business challenges.
  • Familiarity with venture capital deal structures, cap tables, and investor relations to help portfolio companies navigate fundraising and ownership considerations.
  • Ability to analyze and benchmark portfolio company performance, identify key operational metrics, and provide actionable insights.
  • Track record of building relationships within the startup ecosystem, including founders, co-investors, and industry partners.
  • Exposure to board-level discussions, investor updates, and portfolio reviews is a plus.


Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong analytical and financial modeling skills to assess portfolio company performance and growth potential.
  • Strategic problem-solving ability, with a bias for action in supporting portfolio companies.
  • Excellent relationship management and communication skills to engage with founders, investors, and stakeholders effectively.
  • Deep network within venture capital and startup ecosystems to facilitate introductions and strategic connections
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally with teams across product, sales, finance, and operations.
  • Passion for early-stage investing and a commitment to adding value beyond capital.
  • Preference given to candidate with experience leveraging portfolio management platform tools (such as Allvue, iLEVEL, etc)
