What are the responsibilities and job description for the HOPE Custodian position at Open Sky?
Job Purpose
Under the direction of the School Operations Manager and Regional Maintenance Coordinator, the Custodian will assist and support our schools in maintaining a high level of cleanliness and orderliness in classrooms and around campus.
Essential Responsibilities
- Conduct all business in accordance with Open Sky policies and procedures, state and federal laws; e.g., OSHA, ADA, Fair Housing, etc.
- Preventative maintenance/safety always and maintains awareness of proper safety precautions
- Constantly observes the condition of school property throughout the community and immediately reports and/or initiates action to correct unsafe conditions
- Engage with students in being a steward of their environment
- Physically walks the property on a frequent basis and removes litter, debris from the grounds
- Removes all trash transfers to the dumpster
- Transfers trash and other items left outside of dumpster into the dumpster. Pick-up and sweep area. Keeps dumpster doors closed on windy days.
- Keep an inventory of supplies needed and alert leader when supply runs low
- Lawncare and grounds upkeep during the spring, summer and fall seasons
- Snow removal to include plowing and preventative salting when necessary
- Follows scope of work defined by school leaders including but not limited to:
- Washes windows, handrails, window sills, etc.
- Dust and mops floors
- Cleans bathrooms and removes trash mid-day
- Performs work area clean-up and safety related duties
- Perform minor repairs and touch-up paint
- Serve as a second server daily for any needs in the cafeteria or as directed
- Work collaboratively with the regional facilities and notify them in timely manner of any maintenance needs
- Performs any additional duties
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent Preferred
- A minimum of one year of custodial experience
- Commitment to HOPE’s mission
- Meet all physical demands of the position
- Able to take direction.
- Work quickly and efficiently
- Experience working with elementary age youth or in a school setting strongly preferred
- Ability to think outside the box and do whatever it takes to get the job done
- Willingness to accept, implements, and grow from constructive feedback
- A strong commitment and high expectations for cleanliness and organization
Physical Requirements
- Bend/Stoop/Squat/Kneel Perform routine cleaning pick up debris
- Climb Stairs Routine duties require access to all levels
- Push or Pull Move equipment, appliances, open and close doors, etc.
- Comfortable operating cleaning machinery
- Reach above Shoulder Perform routine maintenance/repairs, stock and remove equipment, to place trash in dumpster
- Climb Ladders Perform routine cleaning
- Grasp/Grip/Turning Handle tools and equipment, perform routine cleaning
- Finger Dexterity Handle tools and equipment, perform routine cleaning
- Lifting/carrying (supplies, trash receptacles, ladders, etc.): Occasional need (1% to 33% of the time) 25 - 75 lbs. Frequent need (33% to 66% of the time) 1 - 25 lbs. Constant need (66% to 100% of the time)
