Open Window School is a K-8 independent school on Cougar Mountain, centrally located between Bellevue, Issaquah, and Newcastle. For 5 weeks during the summer, Open Window runs an exciting summer program for students entering Kindergarten through 7 th grade within the local community.
The S’more Fun Counselor is a key part of our camp team, ensuring that the excitement and joy of camp extend beyond the traditional camp day. This role is designed for energetic, attentive, and creative individuals who can support campers' needs in a fun and engaging aftercare environment.
From 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday, the S’more Fun Counselor will start the day as a float counselor, assisting with lunch and recess coverage. They will then transition into leading our S’more Fun aftercare program, where they will facilitate activities, supervise play, and foster a positive and welcoming atmosphere for campers.

Major Areas Of Responsibility/Specific Duties
- Assist in covering lunch breaks and recess periods for camp staff before transitioning to the aftercare program.
- Plan and lead engaging activities to keep the energy of camp alive during aftercare hours.
- Supervise and actively engage with campers during indoor and outdoor play.
- Facilitate snack time, ensuring smooth transitions and assisting campers as needed.
- Create a safe and welcoming environment by being attentive to campers’ needs.
- Foster positive communication with parents/guardians during camper pick-up.
- Work collaboratively with other staff members to maintain a fun, structured, and inclusive aftercare experience.
- Ensure that all camp policies, safety guidelines, and emergency procedures are followed.
- Support counselors and specialists with transitions and clean-up duties.
- Participate in staff meetings and training sessions as required.
- Other duties as needed and assigned.
- Maintain active engagement with campers and ensure they are supervised at all times.
- Lead and facilitate activities that encourage creativity, play, and social interaction.
- Maintain a positive, supportive, and enthusiastic attitude to keep campers excited and engaged.
- Assist in behavior management, providing guidance and redirection when necessary.
- Ensure a clean, organized, and safe environment for all campers and staff.
- Ability to engage in physical activities such as games and outdoor play.
- Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors, sometimes in warm weather.
- Physical stamina for extended periods of standing, walking, and supervising children.
Qualities & Qualifications:
The following skills, knowledge, and abilities may enhance an applicant’s candidacy:
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- CPR/First Aid Certified (preferred).
- Experience working with K-8 students in camp, after-school, or enrichment programs.
- Interest in youth development and creating engaging experiences for children.
- Strong teamwork, leadership, and behavior management skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively and positively with campers, colleagues, and families.
- Organized, reliable, and able to adapt to a fast-paced environment.
