Research Engineer / Research Scientist, Computer-Using Agent About the RoleWe’re looking for Research Engineers / Scientists eager to advance the frontier of computer-using agent research.As a research engineer / scientist, you will accelerate our research agenda by effectively identifying and resolving open questions and technical challenges to achieve research objectives. Collaborating with cross-functional researchers and engineers, you will navigate complex, large-scale infrastructures and adapt to fast-evolving research demands to deliver impactful results.This role is based in San Francisco, CA. We use a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees.In this role, you will : Identify open challenges for developing practical computer-using agents, formalize them into concrete problems and make measurable improvements.Own and pursue a research agenda to improve model capability and performance.Build and innovate components for developing computer-using agents, including datasets, training infra, modeling, evaluation, RL environments, and tasks.Design, implement, test, and debug code across our research stack.You might thrive in this role if you : Are excited about making real-world impact through cutting edge agent research and deployment.Are a team player, willing to do a variety of tasks that move the team forward.Excel in execution, consistently completing tasks efficiently.Enjoy fast-paced, collaborative, and cutting-edge research environments.Have a strong background in multimodal web agents, computer-using agents, relevant large-scale reinforcement learning or agentic safety research.Have strong engineering skills in designing and optimizing large-scale machine learning systems.About OpenAIOpenAI is an AI research and deployment company dedicated to ensuring that general-purpose artificial intelligence benefits all of humanity.
