About the Role
We’re looking for a strategic, results-driven Senior Recruiter to manage high-pressure hiring for world-class research scientists and machine learning engineers. This important role demands your experience recruiting competitive, top-tier talent in AI, machine learning, or related fields, with a strong balance of strategic vision and day-to-day execution. You should view this role as an orchestrator and shepherd for candidates, hiring teams, and leaders.
As a key talent partner advancing OpenAI's research—refining scaling laws, boosting neural performance, and pioneering AI safety—you'll recruit elite talent driving innovations in transformer architectures and deep reinforcement learning.
This is not an ideal role for Recruiters who overly index on “pipelines” or “numbers”. The key to this role is the building and maintaining relationships in the AI community and talent networks we work in, with care and purpose, and through grit and focus.

You will :
Lead end-to-end recruitment for high-impact research and ML engineering roles.
Develop and execute innovative sourcing strategies to attract elite talent - sometimes with talent n=1.
Build and nurture robust networks within the AI and tech communities.
Collaborate with research leaders to align talent strategies with org needs.
Optimize recruitment processes in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
Utilize data-driven insights to continuously improve hiring quality and efficiency.
Champion OpenAI's research to scientific and engineering communities.
We’re looking for someone with :
10 years of Recruiter experience, including a proven track record of cultivating relationships with and hiring highly competitive talent.
Expertise in AI, machine learning, or related high-tech industries.
Strong strategic thinker with excellent operational execution.
Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to thrive in a dynamic, high-pressure environment.
Location and Workplace
This role is based in our San Francisco Research office, and we chose this location due to proximity to our research / ML teams. We will help you relocate to be with the team and aren't considering remote applications.
We use a hybrid work model : three days in the office per week with optional work from home on Thursdays and Fridays. In addition, you will travel to local and global events as relevant to our teams periodically.
Our open-plan offices have height-adjustable desks, conference rooms, phone booths, well-stocked kitchens full of snacks and drinks, three in-house prepared meals daily, a private outdoor space for working in the sun or socializing, nap rooms, private bike storage, and more.
Salary : $240,000
