Job Description: Cooking/Kitchen Assistant for Homeless Shelter
OpenDoors operates social services for people in recovery and people with criminal records, including multiple homeless shelters. The food is pre-prepared so it is available 7 nights a week. The job is approximately 20-40 hours a week. Standard shifts are Monday 930AM-430PM, Wednesday 930AM-430 PM, Thursday 1030AM-430 PM, Friday 930AM-430 PM along with rotating weekend food drop-off responsibilities.
Duties Include:
- Assisting Kitchen Manager with monitoring stock and and stocking food for storage
- Helping donated foods from various food banks and donation sources, including picking up donations. A significant number of the meals are donated largely prepared and just have to be adapted and organized, but some meals are also cooked from scratch.
- Assist Kitchen Manager to prep and cook meals for two shelters.
- Deliver meals to shelters at least three days a week.
Qualifications include:
- Person must have a registered car and valid license so they can pick up food and drop off food.
- Cooking and meal prep skills
- ServeSafe Certification
Salary and Benefits: $18.00-$21/hour depending on certification and experience, health insurance, SIMPLE IRA with a 3% match, paid sick and vacation, dental, vision, long term disability insurance.
