What are the responsibilities and job description for the Engineering Structures Designer-CAD position at OpenLight?
Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and technically proficient professional to join our Silicon Photonics (SiPh) team at OpenLight. As a member of this team, you will be responsible for the development, design, layout, and integration of various Silicon, SiN, and Heterogenous Si-IIIV based components for our silicon photonics PDK.
About the Role
You will work closely with photonic IC-architects, CAD-layout engineers, process engineers, and test engineers to define, design, integrate, and validate optical components in our Si-IIIV technology platform.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and model silicon and SiN photonic optical components using custom-built and commercial simulation tools, such as Mach-Zehnder Interferometers and modulators, ring resonators and modulators, multimode interference couplers, directional couplers, waveguides, and Bragg gratings.
- Use custom-built and commercial simulation tools to design and model Si and III-V based components, including photodetectors, amplitude- and phase-modulators, Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers, and Lasers.
- Perform photonic integrated circuit CAD layout of integrated optical components and circuits.
- Analyze test data to optimize and validate optical component performance.
- Conduct statistical analysis of large production datasets to validate performance over process and drive yield improvements.
- Work with process engineers to define and optimize device structures and processes, driving yield improvements for devices and PICs.
Requirements
- A Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related discipline.
- Familiarity with photonics design and simulation tools, including mode solvers, FDTD, beam propagation, and scattering matrix modeling.
- A strong understanding of semiconductor processing and how process variations interact with photonic component performance.
- Hands-on experience with testing of integrated optical devices at wafer and/or die level is a plus.
- Proficiency in programming with scripting languages, preferably Python.
- Experience with statistical analysis of large datasets using statistical software or toolboxes.
