School Success Navigator

Operation Breakthrough is a not-for-profit organization that helps children who are living in poverty develop to their fullest potential by providing them a safe, loving and educational environment. Operation Breakthrough strives to support and empower the children’s families through advocacy, referral services and emergency aid.

Operation Breakthrough is hiring several School Success Navigators. These positions are designed to help support:

• Parents’ understanding of the definition and importance of school readiness and attendance in preschool for their child’s long term success
• Parents’ engagement in achieving school readiness
• A shared understanding of the importance of timely, attuned school selection
• A shared understanding of the importance of partnerships among social service, health, and education in supporting a successful transition for kindergarten students.
• Regular communication with parents regarding student progress
• Follow-up with parents after transition to Kindergarten
• Put each child and their performance as a focal point for regular conversations with parents.
• Increase parent engagement through conferences, progress reports, individualized take home materials, family nights, and regular communication through newsletters and weekly updates. They will help parents build stronger relationships with the schools their children are slated to attend.

Qualifications:

• AA or equivalent experience as an early care and education teacher
• Experience administering DRDP, and PKOF assessments
• Experience developing play-based lesson plans which incorporate key child development indicators
• Ability to develop learning kits and lead workshops for parents
• Strong communication skills
• Ability to build relationships with parents and other team members
• Strong sense of personal initiative, self-directed
• Ability to work with diverse population.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Indoor classroom and outdoor recess (weather permitting).
