JOB TITLE: Community Engagement Coordinator (Bilingual Preferred - Spanish)
CLASSIFICATION: Non–Exempt/Hourly
REPORTS TO: Director of Resource Development
SUPERVISES: Volunteers and Meal Providers
TIME COMMITMENT: 40 hours, some evenings and weekends required
JOB PURPOSE
The Community Engagement Coordinator oversees the organization’s volunteer, community partner, and meal programs. In collaboration and consultation with program administrators and supervisors, this individual will work to produce the following outcomes and agency goals: 1. Strengthen programs (e.g. Steps to Independence, Meal Program, Volunteer Program, Food Pantry, and Boutique); 2. Advocate for and educate the community about Operation HOPE-North County; 3. Work directly, indirectly, and in collaboration with the Executive Team and others to build community partnerships, increase community awareness, and build donor-based opportunities.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Volunteer Program:
- Oversee the day-to-day operation of the volunteer program.
- Generate strategies to recruit volunteers for various programs and outreach events.
- Serve as the main point of contact for all volunteers and volunteer inquiries.
- Manage the volunteer application process, background checks, orientation, coaching, and onboarding procedures for new volunteers.
- Maintain a current and updated Volunteer Manual, procedures, and list of volunteer opportunities.
- Ensure the volunteer check-in procedures are followed and records of volunteer hours are maintained using established procedures.
- Implement staff and board approved policies, procedures, and standards for volunteers.
- Maintain confidential records for all volunteers and documentation of volunteer activities.
- Establish and implement processes for evaluating the contributions of individual volunteers and volunteer satisfaction, as well as overall volunteer program effectiveness.
- Work proactively and communicate clearly with staff to provide accurate information and assistance with volunteers.
- Assist with conflict resolution between staff and volunteers using established OHNC procedures.
- Assess volunteer needs as well as programmatic administrative needs, developing volunteer assignments and position descriptions in collaboration with program supervisors.
- Develop, coordinate, and implement volunteer recognition activities using a variety of approaches such as appreciation events, social media, newsletters, or announcements.
- Ensure that volunteers work in a safe, healthy, and supportive environment consistent with all applicable legislative regulations and agency policies.
Community Meal Program:
- Recruit, acquire, and retain meal providers.
- Maintain an up-to-date meal calendar as well as a list of providers and meals served.
- Coordinate the utilization of partner commercial kitchens by meal providers.
- Keep records of all provider food handler cards and other needed records.
- Communicate names of meal providers to staff and provide updates as needed.
- Identify opportunities and develop strategies to partner with civic groups, faith-based groups, and local restaurants to prepare or provide meals.
- Place meal orders for dinners that are funded by donors unable to serve and attend the dinner.
- Communicate with and express appreciation to meal providers.
Community Engagement/Outreach:
- Maintain an up-to-date agency volunteer and community engagement database.
- Assist with developing a wide variety of materials (paper, electronic, video, photographic) for volunteer program recruitment and community engagement opportunities.
- Identify and participate in community outreach events and speaking opportunities to promote Operation HOPE-North County.
- Develop strategies to broaden current and potential community partnerships to meet program goals.
- Cultivate relationships with volunteers and community partners to leverage donor-based opportunities and identify additional ways of partnering to meet existing program needs.

SCHEDULE
Involves a flexible and adaptive workweek of 40 hours which will include some evening and weekend hours to accommodate outreach activities and special events. Some overtime may be assigned as needed to meet shelter programming needs.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Associate degree in communication, public relations, social services, related field, or significant relevant career experience
- Experience working in the nonprofit sector
- Supervisory experience (preferred)
- Proficiency in use of Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, Outlook, Google Docs, or similar for word processing, spreadsheets, database management, email, social media, and other platforms.
- Ability to lift 40 pounds as well as stand, walk, stoop and bend.
- Bilingual Preferred - Spanish
