We are seeking an Interstate Transport Driver Specialist to join our team! Operation Kindness is a pioneer in Texas for assisting animals in need of veterinary care, companionship and most of all, a home.

As our animals require care each day of the year, weekend and holiday availability is a must. We provide 10 holidays per year that hourly employees in this role who work on the holiday receive time and a half pay!
POSITION OVERVIEW:* The Interstate Transport Driver Specialist* is responsible for the safe and efficient transport of animals between designated locations, both locally and across the country, in compliance with Operation Kindness protocols as well as state and federal regulations. This role includes overseeing the care and welfare of animals during transport, maintaining transport vehicles, equipment, and supplies, and performing administrative tasks to ensure animals are appropriately matched and successfully transported to destination partners.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Summary of General Responsibilities:
- Maintain client, donor, and staff confidentiality at all times.
- Follow Standard Precautions and other safety regulations at all times.
- Complete all necessary and requested training in a timely manner in accordance with Operation Kindness policy.
- Attend staff meetings, as required.
Summary of Essential Job Tasks:
· Communicate with Interstate Transport Coordinator - Lead and Interstate Transport Liaison to establish itineraries for ground and flight transports.
· Coordinate local pickups of animals that have been tagged for transport from shelters, veterinary clinics, boarding facilities, airports, and other assigned areas.
· Assist Hub staff in cleaning kennels/holdings in preparation of arrival or departure of transport animals.
· Ensure that all necessary paperwork for travel is prepared prior to travel for each individual animal.
· Ensure that crates during travel ground and flight are all appropriately labeled per receiving group and SOP guidelines.
· Able to prepare Operation Kindness vehicles prior to transport with accurate crate sizes for each animal, able to load and unload animals safely.
· During transport, be aware of special/prescription diets and medication and document administration, as instructed by Operation Kindness veterinarians and medical staff.
· Safely and humanely load and unload animals to and from their crates, kennels, and runs, ensuring a Fear Free experience.
· Transport equipment and supplies to and from shelters, veterinary clinics, boarding facilities, and other assigned locations.
· Ensure that all proper logs during travel are completed, including the checklist and transport travel log.
· Clean, sanitize and organize Operation Kindness vehicles daily and assist the Maintenance Department on the scheduled maintenance on vehicles.
· Clean, sanitize and organize Operation Kindness transport crates and maintain the crate storage area.
· Data collection forms are completed, and that data is entered timely and accurately into appropriate databases.
· Utilize daily reports for animals that are awaiting transport, medical items due, and notify lead/managers if there are any discrepancies.
· Communicate transport barriers for source and receiving partners to Manager of Interstate Transport.
· Maintain relationships with both source and receiving partners and local boarding facilities.
· When requested, assist the Community Resources teams with community events.
- Additional, relevant tasks as assigned by the Manager of Interstate Transport.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Education Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
Experience Requirements
- The individual performing this job may be required to work more than 8 hours in a day or 40 hours in a week. Shift times will vary and will include weekend, early morning, and late evening hours. Shift days/times vary depending on transport schedule.
- Must have valid Texas driver’s license and eligible to be a driver for Operation Kindness.
- Prior experience handling dogs and cats of different sizes and temperaments preferred.

Physical Effort: Position requires lifting and carrying animals and shelter materials weighting up to 40 lbs; when animals or materials weigh over 40 lbs, another staff member will assist in the lifting and carrying. Position will require sitting or standing for extended periods of time and speaking over the telephone. Position will require driving a vehicle for long durations during interstate animal transport.
Working conditions: If working on-site, may be exposed to unpleasant odors, noises and animal feces. May be exposed to bites, scratches and animal diseases.

· Position is regular, full-time and non-exempt.
