POSITION TITLE: Bus Monitor
FLSA: Hourly, Non-Exempt
REPORTS TO: Transportation Director
Basic Duties (not all inclusive):
- Checks to see all students are in their assigned seats while in route.
- Assists Bus Driver in performing pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
- Vehicle walk-through, lost and found items, seat-checks, etc.
- Maintains and enforces all provisions of the District’s Bus-Safety Rules for students.
- Confronts emergency situations in accordance with safety-standard operational procedures.
Qualifications: No experience needed. Consistent attendance necessary.
Hours/Schedule: The position is guaranteed 5 hours of pay per day. 2.5 in the morning and 2.5 in the afternoon. The actual time worked may vary for either the morning or afternoon. This position is expected to work all days students are in session and need transportation to and from school. That is usually 177 student days. Typically, student days are the only days you will need to be in attendance but there are transportation meetings, trainings, etc. that may require you to come in outside of your normally scheduled hours. These would be paid unless told otherwise.
Rate of pay: The hourly rate of pay starts at $12.15 per hour. An increased starting rate is available for up to 5 years credit for prior bus monitor experience. Your starting rate will be determined after meeting with HR and/or the Transportation Director and discussing your qualifications.
Benefits: Since this is a part-time, part-year position, it is not eligible for health and dental benefits however, it does qualify for a $20,000 life insurance policy at no cost to you. You also are enrolled from day one, in the state sponsored retirement program, IPERS. The District contributes 9.44% of your wages to this. IPERS requires that you would contribute 6.29% of your wages.
Paid Leave: The District has both paid sick leave and paid personal leave. As an employee of the District you are given 2 personal days to use throughout the school year. You are given sick leave based on the number of years you are with the District; your first year you are given 10 days, pro-rated for the month that you start employment. This position is not eligible for paid vacation leave.
Paid Holidays: This position is paid for 5 holidays throughout the school year. Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year’s Day and Memorial Day.
