OPEX Corporation is currently seeking a full-time Sheet Metal Fabrication Supervisor to work on our first shift (M-F, 7:00am-3:30pm) in our 180,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility in Pennsauken, NJ. The Sheet Metal Fabrication Supervisor will be responsible for supervising and managing the daily operations of the sheet metal shop. OPEX is seeking an individual with a strong background in sheet metal fabrication with proven leadership abilities.
Responsibilities:
- The Sheet Metal Fabrication Supervisor oversees the daily operations of the sheet metal fabrication department in a manufacturing plant
- This role involves supervising a team of sheet metal mechanics, programmer, and finished parts to completion ensuring adherence to quality and safety standards, and optimizing workflows to meet project deadlines
- The Supervisor collaborates with other departments, maintains equipment, and ensures compliance with safety and regulatory requirements while driving process improvements and team performance
- Responsible for ensuring safety; on time, on scope, and maintaining the productivity levels within the department operations
- Responsible for maintaining, executing the required collaboration points with other departments and work cell functions, along with daily department operations.
- Manage the team of sheet metal mechanics, programmer, and support staff to achieve production goals
- Ensure the correct setup and calibration of sheet metal fabrication equipment, including Amada CNC laser/punch machines, Amada press brakes, etc
- Provide ongoing training, coaching, and performance evaluations to build a skilled and engaged workforce
- Oversee daily operations of the sheet metal fabrication department to meet production schedules and customer requirements
- Verify that team members accurately interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and CAD files for precise fabrication
- Develop and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) for fabrication tasks to ensure consistency and efficiency
- Collaborate with other plant departments, including engineering, quality control, and maintenance, to optimize workflows and reduce bottlenecks
- Manage custom or prototype sheet metal projects, coordinating closely with engineering or R&D teams
- Oversee the maintenance and machine uptime maximization
- Enforce strict adherence to product quality standards, conducting inspections throughout the production process
- Manage inventory of raw materials, tools, and equipment to prevent downtime and minimize waste
- Coordinate with purchasing to ensure timely procurement of materials while maintaining cost efficiency
- Monitor resource usage and implement process improvements to reduce costs
- Determine opportunities for advancement and innovation in capabilities, design or outcomes as department grows
Qualifications:
- Strong knowledge of sheet metal materials, fabrication methods, and related sheet metal equipment
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and CAD files
- Proficient with production planning tools and basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Excel, ERP systems)
- Physical requirements include standing, walking, and occasionally lifting materials up to 50 lbs
- Minimum 10 years of experience in sheet metal fabrication, including at least 5 years in a supervisory or managerial role
- Minimum 10 years of Press Brake hands on setup and operation
- Familiarity with CNC machinery and modern fabrication technologies
