A Shop Foreman ensures Service Technicians, equipment, and materials are utilized properly to maximize productivity. This role will continually work to improve efficiency and customer satisfaction, by ensuring the equipment is properly maintained and repaired. This position will work closely with the Service/Branch Manager, and help build a profitable location using leadership, service, and maintenance knowledge. This role typically prepares one for the future position of Service Manager although it is not a requirement for that position.
Essential Functions
- Ensures the shop maintains and complies fully with company safety policies and procedures, including the proper use of PPE by shop and yard technicians.
- Works to ensure that the shop, yard, and wash bay areas are organized, and meet set standards of cleanliness.
- Coordinate the activities of Service Technicians.
- Regularly provides hands-on training for new and existing technicians and supervises all shop personnel when necessary.
- Responsible for the safe maintenance and repair of a variety of complex rental equipment
- Diagnose and supervise the repair of equipment to ensure work is thorough and is performed efficiently.
- Will conduct regular inspections of all rent-ready equipment to ensure they meet the standards set by Opifex.
- Maintain paperwork/electronic documentation of work performed (work orders) in a complete and timely manner daily.
- May be asked to travel to the customer job site for repair/maintenance of rental equipment.

Required Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; trade school Degree a plus.
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
- 5 years of experience repairing/maintaining equipment and tools.
- Advanced mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of tools.
- Must own tools applicable to position.
- Extensive knowledge of construction equipment with an advanced understanding of schematics and diagrams
- Strong diagnostic and repair skills for a variety of systems
- Superior customer service, teamwork, and verbal/written communication skills.
- Ability to work flexible shifts.
- Prior experience is a plus but is not required.
Military service will be considered in lieu of education/certification experience as applicable.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Although this position has no direct reports, the Shop Foreman will train and supervise mechanical personnel when necessary and in the absence of the Service Manager.
Work Environment
- The environment is consistent with that of construction, heavy equipment, and repair yard.
- May work in extreme conditions in the shop or on job sites.
Travel Required
- Up to 10%. As the needs of the business dictate.
Physical Demands
The physical demands of this role require bending, squatting, crouching, reaching, lifting 50 pounds or more, and working indoors/outdoors when required by the job.
