Job Summary
Oppidan is looking for the right candidate to hire for our newly created Property Accountant position. This position will be responsible for accounting functions related to commercial real estate properties, managing financial transactions, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and preparing financial statements.
Duties
- Reconcile bank accounts and maintain accurate general ledger entries for all property related transactions, ensuring the transactions align with Oppidan standards.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements/reporting packages for assigned portfolio.
- Ensure compliance with applicable financial regulations, accounting standards and real estate specific financial requirements, specifically GAAP accounting.
- Collaborate with property managers to ensure financial records align with operational activities and real estate management best practices.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, including property managers, business leaders and external vendors.
- Oversee the accounts payable and receivable functions for property related expenses and income.
- Assist in the preparation of property budgets and forecasts, monitor actual performance against budgeted figures and report on variances.
- Reconcile and prepare annual common area maintenance (CAM) reconciliations.
- Provide documentation and support for audits, addressing any discrepancies or concerns identified.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiency within the property accounting function.
Experience
- 2-5 years' experience as a Property Accountant or related field.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc).
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance preferred.
- Experience with real estate accounting software (Yardi Breeze, Sage Intacct or similar)
