Position Details
The Camp Counselor Preschool Lead – is a lead position at the City’s preschool camps. This position is on the leadership team and coordinates, designs, and manages the daily program activities, staff, and campers. The lead is responsible for ensuring an effective and cohesive operation on a day-to-day basis. The primary position responsibilities and areas of impact are but not limited to:
- Manages the overall operations of the preschool site. Onsite supervisor for the staff at the site; conveys expectations of the program and prepares recommendations for the improvement of the program.
- Develops, organizes, and conveys the weekly program plans to the staff in the camp setting. Prepares for the program by organizing supplies and materials.
- Assists Sr. Recreation Supervisor in the delivery of staff orientation, trainings, and staff meetings.
- Provides high communication prior to and during the camp to parents. Support staff with communication delivery as needed.
- Pro-actively identifies and solves problems and areas of concern for staff, campers, and parents.
- Assists staff in the supervision of the campers and the behavioral management of their needs.
- Attends weekly leadership meetings.
- Completes reporting procedures for all accidents/incidents, behaviors, medications, or emergency forms.
- A willingness to learn about and support people with disabilities to fully participate in camp activities.
While these areas are the primary focus of the position, we believe strongly in teamwork and employees may be called upon to perform a variety of duties in their roles with the City.
Position Requirements
- 18 years of age or older
- One year experience working in a recreation, education, or preschool related field.
- Ability to work June – August; Mondays – Fridays; attend evening staff meetings.
- Must be current or able to become certified in First Aid/CPR prior to first day with campers.
- Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid, behavior, or emergency related situations. Must be able to assist campers or staff in an emergency.
- Must possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers such as prolonged standing, bending, walking long distances, running, climbing and ability to lift to 50 lbs.
- Ability to communicate and work with all age and skills levels and provide necessary instruction to campers and give work direction to staff.
- Observe behaviors assess its appropriateness, enforce safety and emergency procedures as needed.
- Experience working with students with disabilities.
