Burr & Forman LLP is seeking an experienced estate planning paralegal. This position will preferably be resident in our Birmingham, AL or Columbia, SC office. KEY CONTRIBUTIONS
- Research obituaries to determine client’s current living status and locate contact information for designated personal representatives.
- File original wills with the probate court in coordination with Information Governance.
- Assist Information Governance in returning original client documents to the client, personal representative, or new counsel.
- Digitize original client documents such as wills, deeds, death certificates, trust agreements, affidavits, and estate tax returns as applicable.
- Occasional travel between Burr offices.
THE ESSENTIALS
- A Bachelor’s degree, paralegal certification or degree, and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Two or more years of estate planning experience
- Knowledge of legal process, principles and practices required in probating estate assets and responsibilities of personal representatives with regard to estate tax procedures for decedents
- Highly organized, detail-orientated, proactive with a desire to take ownership as a contributing member of the team
- Strong communication, drafting and writing skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Outlook
- Balance competing priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment, exercising patience and professionalism during stressful situations
