Personal Trainer
Status: Part-time/Temporary/Seasonal (PTS) position, non-exempt
Salary: Starts at $27.00 to $30.00 per hour
Location: Eden Prairie Community Center
Hours: Various, including nights and weekends
Reporting Relationship: Reports to Recreation Supervisor – Fitness
Community Center Division
The Eden Prairie Community Center consists of state-of-the-art facilities, recreation programs and fitness activities designed to help our residents Live Well! The Community Center facilities include a fitness center with top-of-the-line cardio equipment, resistance training and free weights, three group fitness studios, two specialized dryland training areas, two eight-lane, 25-yard lap pools with two diving boards and a climbing wall, a zero-depth entry recreation pool, spa, water slide, two full-sized racquetball courts, three ice rinks, men’s and women’s locker rooms, a family locker room and several meeting room facilities available for private parties, meetings and gatherings.
Position Details
The personal trainer leads individualized fitness sessions with clients at the Eden Prairie Community Center. This position may work with clients individually or in small group settings. The primary position responsibilities and areas of impact are:
- Create customized and appropriate fitness programs for clients based on their needs and goals.
- Explain and demonstrate exercises. Ensure clients perform exercises safely.
- Monitor the well-being of all clients throughout sessions.
- Ensure clients’ needs are met through personal recognition and by providing quality service.
- Communicate effectively with clients during and in between sessions. Communicate effectively with supervisor and other team members.
- Serve a variety of clientele.
- Assume a leadership role as a professional in the area of fitness and wellness.
- Encourage clients to continue with exercises and make healthy choices.
- Ensure that a safe and healthy environment exists for exercising.
- Enforce all fitness facility policies, rules and regulations.
- Assist in the cleaning and general maintenance of fitness areas.
- Arrive well-prepared for each session with ample time to set up and greet clients.
While these areas are the primary focus of the position, we believe strongly in teamwork and employees will be called upon to perform a variety of duties as a part of their role with the City.
Position Requirements
Education: Personal Trainer certification (NASM, ACSM or equivalent) and First Aid, CPR and AED certifications required. Group fitness certification or format-specific certifications desired.
Work Experience: Personal training experience with a variety of clientele.

The City of Eden Prairie conducts professional reference and criminal history checks for all employees joining the organization. All final candidates must successfully complete and pass the pre-employment process before their first day of employment.
Salary : $27 - $30
