Recreation Coordinator -Athletics and Facility Use (Seasonal)

  • Part Time (Part-time/Temporary/Seasonal Status), Non-Exempt
  • Starts at $21/hr depending on qualifications, plus cell phone allowance
  • Reports to Recreation Supervisor- Athletics. This position may take work direction from the Park Maintenance Supervisor and other Recreation Supervisors.
  • Located at Eden Prairie City Center (8080 Mitchell Road, Eden Prairie, MN 55344), Maintenance Facility, and off-site facilities and fields located in Eden Prairie.
  • 20-30 hrs/week, schedule varies based on business need. Typical schedule is weekday (M-Th) afternoons into early evenings, flexible; occasional Fridays or weekend hours based on athletic tournament schedules. Seasonal position ends in late August. Position may be extended and hours adjusted upon business need and candidate interest.

Responsibilities

The Recreation Coordinator - Athletics and Facility Use supports athletic operations for both the Parks and Recreation Divisions. Operational support includes adult athletic programming, and outdoor athletic facility use for adult and youth organized athletics. Special events may be assigned. The primary position responsibilities and areas of impact are:

  • Supports day-to-day operations and communications of athletic programs for organized athletics and outdoor athletic facilities.
  • Assists with the facilitation of organized athletic facility use schedules and community use rentals. Maintains the day-to-day schedule and related maintenance needs of outdoor athletic facilities. Processes invoices and ensures payment according to policies priority group status.
  • Assists in the communication with Parks Maintenance staff regarding outdoor athletic facility use.
  • May serve as on-site liaison at athletic events such as athletic tournaments hosted by youth organized athletic association at City outdoor athletic facilities.
  • Supports athletics staff by coordinating staff schedules, providing work direction and assisting with delivery of staff orientation and training.
  • Performs program site visits and communicates with participants and staff to ensure high quality program delivery.
  • Ensures fair, equitable, inclusive, and safe practices for athletic programming, staffing, and outdoor athletic facility usage.
  • Independently or in consultation with Parks and Recreation Supervisor(s), makes and communicates weather-related cancelations, prioritizing public safety.
  • Supports special projects and events as assigned.
  • While these areas are the primary focus of this position, we believe strongly in teamwork and employees will be called upon to perform a variety of duties as a part of their role with the City.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two years experience in recreation programming, sports management, or athletics such as but not limited to coaching, officiating, participating, administering, scheduling, and volunteering required.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D) required. A valid driver’s license is required.  A minimum of two years of post-secondary related curriculum or bachelor’s degree in Community Health, Physical Education, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Sports Management, Athletics Administration, or related field is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) required. Experience with software applications used for registration, facility and/or league scheduling preferred.
  • This position requires the ability to lift/carry/push/pull at least 20 lbs
  • Majority of work hours in an office setting or indoors. Remaining time spent outdoors with exposure to all weather conditions.
  • Candidates must successfully complete and pass the City’s evaluation of the pre-employment process prior to their first day of employment. Pre-employment processes for this position includes professional reference checks, background check, driver’s license check, work verification and education verification if applicable.
