Position Overview:
We are looking for a dedicated Canine Enrichment Caregiver to join our small, award-winning facility dedicated to the care and well-being of dogs. The ideal candidate will be passionate about animals, detail-oriented, and committed to maintaining a clean and safe environment for our canine guests. As a Caregiver, you will play a vital role in ensuring that our facility continues to uphold its reputation for excellence in care.
Key Responsibilities:
Animal Care:
- Ensure the overall well-being of dogs in our care, including feeding, providing fresh water, and monitoring health and behavior.
- Administer medications and treatments as directed by our client care records.
- Implement any special dietary requirements or individualized care instructions for each dog.
Cleanliness and Sanitation:
- Going above and beyond to maintain a high standard of cleanliness in kennel areas, exercise yards, and common areas.
- Clean and sanitize kennels, bedding, and food/water dishes daily.
- Conduct deep cleaning and disinfection of kennel facilities on a routine basis.
Exercise and Enrichment:
- Provide daily exercise and playtime for dogs to ensure physical and mental stimulation.
- Includes hiking in the woods, play, fetch, proprioception course, and obstacle work.
- Organize and supervise group play sessions, promoting socialization and positive interactions.
- Create and implement enrichment activities and toys to prevent boredom and anxiety.
Client Interaction:
- Greet clients and their dogs with professionalism.
- Proactive communication with clients to provide updates on their dogs' well-being and activities.
- Address client concerns and questions, providing an exceptional customer experience.
Record Keeping:
- Maintain accurate records of each dog's care, including feeding schedules, medications, and exercise routines as per our run cards and our online system.
- Document any unusual behavior, health concerns, or medical treatments.
- Keep track of inventory, ensuring an adequate supply of food, medication, and cleaning supplies.
- Reconcile inventory bi-annually.
Safety and Security:
- Ensure the safety of all dogs, staff, and visitors by following facility policies and procedures.
- Address any safety or security concerns promptly.
- Be prepared to respond to emergencies and follow established protocols.
Qualifications:
- Passion for working with dogs and dedication to their well-being.
- Experience working in a kennel or animal care environment is a plus.
- Knowledge of basic animal care and husbandry practices.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Physical fitness and the ability to handle dogs of various sizes and energy levels.
- Basic knowledge of canine health and first aid is a plus.
- Must be able to be collaborative and take direction as well as thrive independently.
- Curious and open to learning and coaching.
- Long term interest in being developed into a training role.
This would be a 5 day a week position with 2 days off and working a consistent afternoon to evening shift.
