What are the responsibilities and job description for the Parent Student Helper position at Opportunity Council?
DETAILED SUMMARY:
Provides general office support including: clerical or organizing tasks and projects that assist with closing out the prior program year or preparing for fall start-up. Position also provides back up to customer reception- related tasks, maintenance or organizing tasks in support of the appearance of ELAFS facilities or other logistics in support of the department’s diverse programs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides clerical support to department staff such as filing, printing, faxing, spread sheet creation, organizing, purging old forms, shredding old forms, etc.
- Performs custodial duties such as taking out recycling and garbage, tidying work areas, etc.
- Greets clients and visitors in a professional manner in person and via multi-line telephone system.
- Assure adequate supplies are stocked at central service centers, such as copy paper for duplication machines.
- May run errands or other support duties for professional staff.
- May assist with other supply stocking or inventory.
BILINGUAL POSITIONS ONLY:
Specialize in providing services to clients and families who speak a language other than English as a primary language. May occasionally be asked to support with translating/interpreting a language other than English to assist potential or current clients.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Completes special projects and other related duties as assigned.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Punctuality
- Good verbal communication skills at levels appropriate for customer reception and staff teamwork
- Ability to learn and follow direction.
- Ability to work with others.
- Some computer knowledge with MS Word and MS Excel
- Ability to operate or learn a multi-line telephone system.
- Ability to alphabetize, collate and professionally assemble documents and packets.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed in an office environment with frequent interruptions. Majority of work centers on routine reception and clerical duties, including data entry, spreadsheet maintenance, and filing. Some errands within walking distance of primary work location may be included. Due to summer schedules, must be able to work with substitute supervisors, as needed by the agency.
