Job Overview
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a crucial role in providing assistance and support to individuals with intellectual disabilities in their communities and homes. This position involves working closely with individuals to enhance their quality of life, promote independence, and to live their best life! The DSP is responsible for delivering compassionate care, ensuring safety, and facilitating daily activities while respecting the rights and dignity of each individual. Supporting individuals to make connections to their communities by engaging in activities, volunteering, etc. is a large component to these positions. We have 2 FT positions with one possibility for advancement after 90 days for the right person.
Duties
- Assist clients with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, meal preparation, and medication administration.
- Monitor and observe patients to ensure their well-being and report any changes in condition to the appropriate personnel.
- Provide support in long-term care settings, ensuring that all resident rights are upheld.
- Engage clients in social and recreational activities to promote mental and emotional well-being.
- Lift and transfer clients as needed while adhering to safety protocols.
- Maintain accurate records of client progress and care provided, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to develop individualized care plans tailored to each client's needs.
Requirements
- Previous experience in personal care or community connections preferred.
- Strong understanding of individual rights and the ability to advocate for others effectively.
- Reliable transportation.
- Clean driving, background, child/adult protective checks required.
- Excellent communication skills and a compassionate demeanor towards all individuals.
- Ability to lift/transfer individuals (as needed).
- Must be reliable, patient, and possess strong problem-solving skills.
- Certification in CPR/First Aid is desirable but not mandatory upon hiring; training will be provided.
