Opportunity for Independence is hiring. We are looking for part-time and full-time enthusiastic individuals that are interested in pursuing a career in psychology, education, social work, or similar fields or interested to work as advocates for individuals and instruct life skills.
Opportunity for independence (OFI) advocates self-determination for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities by offering an array of individualized innovative services and behavioral support to promote happy healthy lives.
Various positions are available: We have Supported Living Skills (SLS) instructor position full-time available to work with individuals who have been diagnosed with autism spectrum or other developmental or intellectual disabilities.
The SLS Instructor works with an individual in their home and in the community supporting them to develop independent living skills and actively engage in community life.
Job coach position:
The Job Coach is a direct services position within the Supported Training for Employment Placement (STEP) program of Opportunity for Independence (OFI). OFI is an agency based in San Rafael, California which advocates for the self-determination of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities by offering an array of individualized innovative services and behavioral supports to promote happy, healthy lives. The STEP program offers integrated, competitive employment opportunities, educational and volunteer opportunities, and behavioral supports to enable persons with developmental and intellectual disabilities to fully integrate into the community and be part of the mainstream workforce.
Distinguishing Features:
The Job Coach is to provide participants with job readiness skill development, community integration activities, and individualized employment job coaching in both small group settings, with 1:3, 1:2 or 1:1 ratio. In addition, the Job Coach delivers behavioral supports designed to address specific behavioral challenges of participants which prevent successful community and workforce integration. This position reports to the OFI Executive Director and collaborates closely on employment related matters with the Employment Coordinator.
Major Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities
· Be a strong team player and excellent communicator on the STEP Team and collaborate with all staff to ensure high quality programming and proactive problem resolution
· Work with participants in a group of 3:1 or 1:1
· Implement daily, weekly and monthly programming customized to engage individual and support them in achieving their person-centered plan and ISP goals
· * Pick up and drop off participants at home in the morning and end of the day
- Facilitate information exchange regarding participants with internal personnel and external circle of support(s)
- Document client progress and capture accurate case notes information in a concise, professional, and accurate manner
- Participate in ongoing mandatory trainings and staff meetings
Employment
- Build and sustain positive, respectful relationships with employers as a representative of OFI and ensure professional behavior and appropriate dress as required by specific jobsite
- Work with the Employment Coordinator to assess the vocational, social, communication, and independent skills required by each participant’s specific job site and develop individualized programs to build job skills
- Perform initial and periodic task analysis of each task needed to perform job and provide guidance to the participant
- Assist the participant(s) in performing their work responsibilities in such a way that fosters independence, breaks down and teaches tasks
Community Integration
- Provide support, guidance, and companionship to engage in community integration activities in natural environments
- Establish and maintain a safe environment in all settings including facilities, vehicles, and public outings
- Engage individual while encouraging positive peer interactions and healthy socialization
- Prompt for tasks of daily living and other skills instruction
Behavioral Support
- Redirect inappropriate behaviors and seek positive resolution to individual’s conflicts and difficulties by employing best practices in positive behavioral support interventions and relationship-based approaches
- Utilize non-violent physical crisis intervention tactics if a client presents a danger to themselves or others

Compensation: Depending on Experience and Education

Minimum qualifications: Ability to clear a criminal background check, clean DMV record, some experience working with individuals diagnosed with developmental disabilities or a caregiver working with elderly; Current First Aid and CPR certification preferred but will obtain during employment.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00 - $21.00 per hour
Expected hours: 30 – 40 per week
