Opportunity School is looking for a professional, high-quality preschool teacher who will help create the feeling of home while teaching young children through play and developmentally appropriate learning activities. You make a difference by creating a strong foundation for learning! As the preschool teacher, you will have the opportunity to work as part of an inter-disciplinary team to support preschool children in all areas of development while providing education, health, and social service support to families.
Opportunity School is a high performing early childhood education center. Our mission is to equip young children (0-5) and their families for success through high quality early childhood education and caring family support. We know that when we do this well, we provide the best possible start for young children and strong partnerships with families.
Hours are Monday through Friday with occasional evening and weekend training opportunities. Paid, on-the-job training is provided. A good attitude, dependability, and willingness to learn is an essential function of this Pre-K position. Interest in early childhood education and working with young children and families is required!
Job description
A degree in Early Childhood Education is preferred. A willingness to work towards a degree and 3 years in a childcare or school setting, with Preschool aged children, is required.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain a calming and caring environment for children
- Use a developmentally appropriate curriculum to teach children
- Observe each child to help them improve their social competencies and build self-esteem, language, motor, and cognitive skills
- Encourage children to interact with each other and resolve occasional arguments
- Supervise children to ensure they are safe at all times
- Track children’s progress and report to parents
- Communicate with parents regularly to understand the children’s background and psyche
- Collaborate with other teachers and work together as a team
- Maintain a clean and tidy classroom consistent with health and safety standards
Skills:
- Cool-tempered, friendly, and dependable with a passion for working with children.
- Exceptional understanding of or interest in learning the principles of child development and preschool educational methods
- Ability to follow safety, cleaning, and sanitation guidelines for classrooms
- Excellent communication and the ability to explain things in simple terms to children
- Certification in child CPR and First Aid is a plus but training will be provided.
- Proven experience as an Early Childhood Teacher required.
