POSITION TITLE:        ORAL HEALTH DIRECTOR
 
POSITION SUMMARY:  The Oral Health Director has primary responsibility for managing the performance of the Dental Department. These responsibilities include overseeing the daily operations, staff performance, dental clinical record systems (Dentrix), supervision of all providers, supervision of the clinical aspects of care provided by all dental clinical staff.
 
POSITION REPORTS TO:       EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
 
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES&DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
 
1.     Responsible for hiring and supervising all staff members who work in the Dental Department, ensuring that each staff member is working to meet the Clinic’s mission. Works closely with the Clinic Director to ensure that all provider staff are appropriately credentialed and privileged.
2.     Provides leadership for the development of policies, procedures and analytical tools designed to guide the department’s clinical activities, ensuring that the clinic operates in a consistent and high-quality manner.
3.     Assigns clinic staff assignments and tasks; as well as manage provider schedules.
4.     Chairs at minimum quarterly dental staff meetings and monthly dental assistant meetings. Meetings are 2-3 a year.
5.     May represent the dental clinic in area collaborations and public forums.
6.     Responsible for oversight of program initiatives such as the school portable dentistry.
7.     Responsible for ensuring the clinic engages in activities designed to effectively improve its clinical performance and the quality of its services.
8.     Ensure compliance with standards, laws, and regulations created by regulatory and accrediting organizations such as: BPHC, JCAHO, CLIA, OSHA, State and Federal Governments, etc.
9.     Works closely with the Executive Director and Clinic Director to ensure that all services at the clinic are provided with the highest standard of care.
10. Follow the American Dental Association best practice clinical guidelines for care.
11. Responsible for performing other duties as required helping The Children’s Clinic accomplish its mission.
12. Maintain the spirit of teamwork in the effort to provide a caring, respectful environment for the patient, families, and clinic staff.
13. Maintain membership in ADA, ISDS, CDS and allow the clinic to utilize the associated grant opportunities and member discounts, such as those on staff courses.
14. Maintain an active DEA license.
15. Maintain a flexible schedule. Be able to respond to requests from other staff members and organizations in a timely manner. Admin time will be allotted.
16. Provide coverage for other dentists (such as scheduled days off), helping to ensure that the clinic operates without interruption.
17. Collaborate with UIC-COD on pediatric dental resident rotation programs. Facilitate with credentialing other providers with UIC. Supervise students during rotation, provide post rotation evaluations per UIC.
18. Work with multiple dental supply vendors (Benco, Patterson, Air/Gas, Denovo, Listerine, Ultradent, Bisco, etc.). Monitor the budget with the Executive Director.
19. Work with grant writer, identify grant items, and facilitate purchases as needed.
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
·        Requires a comprehensive understanding of the dental issues involved in providing clinical leadership at a non-for-profit health center.
·        Excellent communication skills that require experience and demonstrated abilities for working in a multi-cultural setting.
·        Ability to organize, direct, prioritize, and delegate work appropriately.
 
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
DDS or DMD with a current Illinois license. A minimum of two (2) or more years in a leadership role in an organization.
