The Oak Park River Forest Infant Welfare Society (IWS) Children’s Clinic is a full-service pediatric clinic. We provide quality, affordable medical, dental and behavioral child health care services, supporting children from birth through age 21 from a single clinic staffed by diverse professionals who care.
POSITION TITLE: Medical Assistant
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Performs front desk administrative and operational activities and assists the medical provider with medical assistant functions.
POSITION REPORTS TO: Medical Director and Clinic Director
MEDICAL ASSISTANT PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
Assist the providers in the following areas:
- Prepares patient for clinical exam/visit, including the collection of typical patient vital metrics (blood pressure, temperature, height, weight etc.)
- Follows through with post-visit duties including follow-up of referrals and patient cancellations
- Input immunization data in ICARE
- Provides service in a manner that is appropriate for the patient’s age; demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to meet the patient’s physical, psychosocial, educational and safety needs
- Ensure all patient records and related documents are managed and maintained timely, accurately, and consistent with all HIPAA and related regulations and requirements
- Ensure compliance and attention to all corporate policies and procedures
- Uphold and consistently represent the values and mission of the organization. Always represent the organization in a highly professional manner.
- Provides back up to all front office positions
- Verifies patient data and insurance to ensure it is updated for accurate billing, inputting updated information into system as required
- Assists with correspondence in obtaining medical necessity letters to appropriate insurance company or business entity
- Handles patient concerns or refers to administration appropriately
- Assists in pulling scripts, labs, and charts.
- Responsible for performing other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with the public
- Clear thinker, able to work independently, prioritize, problem solve and organize
- Ability to work with a diverse patient population
- Skilled in phlebotomy, pediatric immunizations and the proper knowledge and use of medical devices and equipment.
- Read, write, and maintain patient records and related administrative documentation
- Utilize computers in the collection, management, and reporting of patient records
- Demonstrated success in managing difficult patient situations
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma
- Medical assistant certification required
- Phlebotomy certificate a plus
- Bilingual in Spanish
- Proficient with Microsoft Office
- Experience in a family practice/pediatric health care facility a plus
- Knowledge of Greenway Prime Suites electronic medical records software a plus
Job Type: Part time position 26-30 hours per week including two evenings and 1 Saturday per month.
Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
