Phlebotomist

Job Description:

A phlebotomist is responsible for drawing blood from patients for medical testing, transfusions, donations, or research. The phlebotomist must be able to accurately identify patients, properly prepare the site for blood collection, and safely and efficiently collect blood samples. The phlebotomist must also be able to properly label and transport the blood samples to the laboratory for testing. The phlebotomist must maintain a clean and organized work area, follow all safety protocols, and maintain patient confidentiality at all times. The phlebotomist must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as they will be interacting with patients of all ages and backgrounds.

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program
• Certification as a phlebotomist
• Experience in a clinical setting preferred
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Attention to detail and ability to follow protocols
• Ability to maintain patient confidentiality
• Physical ability to stand for long periods of time and lift up to 50 pounds
