OpTech has a Tier 1 client hiring for an Employment Law Associate!
Location: Royal Oak/Troy/Rochester Hills area
Hybrid: 4 days office / 1 day remote
Position Overview:
Provide legal counsel and representation on a broad range of employment law matters. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of employment law, have excellent communication and negotiation skills, and be able to manage both contentious and non-contentious matters. This position will require both advisory and litigation experience, ensuring our clients receive high-quality legal advice and representation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide expert legal advice to employers and employees on employment law issues, including but not limited to discrimination, harassment, wage disputes, wrongful termination, employee benefits, non-compete agreements, and workplace policies.
- Represent clients in disputes before employment tribunals, courts, and other legal forums.
- Draft, review, and negotiate employment contracts, settlement agreements, workplace policies, and other employment-related documents.
- Assist in compliance with labor laws, including advising on employee handbooks, best practices, and regulatory changes.
- Advise clients on employee relations issues and help resolve conflicts within the workplace through mediation or alternative dispute resolution.
- Stay updated on the latest developments in employment law and ensure that clients are informed about relevant legal changes.
- Provide training and workshops on various employment law topics to employers and their staff.
- Collaborate with the firm's other legal teams as needed, particularly in relation to corporate restructuring, mergers, and acquisitions.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Licensed to practice law in Michigan.
- 6 years of experience practicing employment law, preferably in both advisory and litigation settings.
- Negotiating and drafting correspondence and all agreements related to labor and employment law.
- Consulting and advising employers regarding employment-law compliance and best practices.
- All aspects of litigation, including drafting pleadings, taking depositions and arguing in court and other administrative/governmental employment oversight settings.
- Managing and grow client relationships.
- Portable book of business is a plus.
- In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws, including but not limited to Title VII, FMLA, ADA, FLSA, and workplace safety regulations.
- Experience representing clients in employment disputes, including at trial or in hearings before regulatory agencies.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal issues clearly and concisely.
- High level of attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills.
