As a Commissioning Engineer at Optima Engineering, you will be responsible for ensuring that building systems (MEP – Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) and equipment are installed, tested, and operating according to design specifications and client requirements. This role involves working closely with project teams, contractors, and clients to identify and resolve issues, optimize system performance, and ensure that all systems meet industry standards and project goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Commissioning Planning and Coordination – Develop and implement commissioning plans, review project documentation for compliance, and collaborate with design and construction teams to resolve issues.
- System Testing and Verification – Perform functional testing and inspections of MEP systems (HVAC, electrical, lighting, plumbing), document results, and ensure systems meet design standards.
- Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution – Identify and resolve system performance issues, work with contractors to correct deficiencies, and recommend improvements for efficiency.
- Reporting and Documentation – Prepare detailed commissioning reports, maintain accurate records, and provide system training for facility operators.
- Compliance and Safety – Ensure all systems comply with local codes and industry standards (ASHRAE, LEED, NEC) and promote safety procedures on-site
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or related engineering field.
- 3–5 years of experience in commissioning, construction, or MEP design.
- Strong understanding of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and building automation systems.
- Experience with industry standards such as ASHRAE, LEED, and NEC.
- Proficient in commissioning software, REVIT, AutoCAD, and BIM.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or Certified Commissioning Professional (CCP) preferred.
- Experience with sustainable building systems and LEED projects.
- Knowledge of energy modeling and efficiency analysis
- On-site and office-based work.
- May require travel to project sites.
- Some physical work may be required, including climbing ladders and inspecting equipment in mechanical rooms
