KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Leadership & Team Management:
- Lead and mentor a team of manufacturing engineers, providing guidance and professional development.
- Oversee the recruitment, training, and performance evaluations of engineering staff.
- Foster a collaborative environment to promote knowledge-sharing and innovation.
- Process Design & Optimization:
- Develop, implement, and refine manufacturing processes for precision machining of aerospace components.
- Design and validate tooling, fixtures, and equipment to improve machining accuracy, productivity, and safety.
- Identify opportunities to optimize existing processes, reduce cycle times, and minimize waste while maintaining high-quality standards.
- Drive the implementation of new technologies or process improvements to enhance manufacturing capabilities.
- Project Management:
- Manage engineering projects from concept through implementation, ensuring timely delivery and budget adherence.
- Coordinate cross-functional efforts, including R&D, production, quality control, and supply chain teams, to ensure alignment with production goals.
- Ensure that all engineering projects comply with aerospace industry standards, including AS9100, NADCAP, and FAA regulations.
- Quality Assurance & Compliance:
- Ensure the manufacturing processes meet stringent aerospace quality standards and specifications.
- Oversee the identification and resolution of quality issues, supporting the development and implementation of corrective actions.
- Collaborate with the quality assurance team to maintain compliance with industry certifications (e.g., AS9100, ISO 9001) and customer-specific requirements.
- Cost Management & Budgeting:
- Establish and manage manufacturing engineering budgets, ensuring cost-effective solutions for production.
- Analyze manufacturing costs, identify areas for cost reduction, and implement cost-saving initiatives without sacrificing quality.
- Develop capital expenditure requests for new equipment and technology to support future growth.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies.
- Collect and analyze data to identify process bottlenecks and areas for improvement, implementing corrective actions as necessary.
- Promote a culture of innovation and continuous improvement across all levels of manufacturing operations.
- Customer & Supplier Relations:
- Work closely with customers to understand their requirements and ensure manufacturing processes align with their expectations.
- Manage relationships with key suppliers to ensure the availability of high-quality materials and components.
- Lead design reviews and process audits with customers to ensure compliance with specifications and timelines.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Experience:
- 10 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, with at least 5 years in a managerial or leadership role.
- Extensive experience in precision machining (CNC machining, turning, milling) for the aerospace industry, including complex part geometries and tight tolerances.
- Strong experience with machining technologies, tooling, fixturing, and process optimization.
- Proven track record of leading manufacturing engineering teams and driving process improvements in a low-mix, high-volume production environment.
- Familiarity with industry standards such as AS9100, NADCAP, ISO 9001, and FAA regulations.
- Experience with ERP and PLM software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Teamcenter).
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, CAD/CAM software, and quality management systems.
- Expertise in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other continuous improvement methodologies.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, results-driven environment.
- Problem-solving skills with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment, including exposure to machinery and equipment.
